Mac Data Collector Update Published - 0.9.2 Leopard Fixes
We've just published an update to the Mac OS X Data Collector. Let me know of any issues that you find.
0.9.2 - 2007/11/10
Bugs Fixed
* Fixed issue where logs were not being sent with some Leopard installations
* Changed the way that application names are collected. The previous way was causing Leopard to display a "Choose Application" dialog for some applications like Firefox. This fix may require you to re-tag certain applications
* Fixed issue with hiding the dock icon under Leopard
* Safari URLs should now once again be working

Inappropriate? It seems that many things stopped working with this release:
* All apps appear as ".app" rather then with their readable title. Many of my previously tagged apps are no longer recognized because they're titled differently, e.g. "ical.app" instead of "calendar".
* Firefox URLs are no longer recognized. I get one big "Firefox.app" bar with no sites visited.
(p.s. I'm still with Tiger)
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate? One of the things we've been fighting with since the Leopard release is the change in how the Finder determines which application is active.
There are two names for each application - the "displayed name" and the "process name". Previously we were using the "process name" and that was working fine for most things under Tiger. However, Leopard is a bit more picky when it comes to trying to determine which application you are referring to - so if it can not find the name of the application in the internal software list, it will bring up a dialog asking you to "Choose Application".
You can view the list of applications and their names by going to the Apple Menu -> About This Mac -> More Info... -> and selecting the Software Applications from the left hand view.
We felt that using the name of the application as it was located on the hard drive was the lesser of two evils. Unfortunately as you've pointed out - this causes some tags issues that require you to retag some applications. We will continue to look at this issue to see if there is a better way to handle it.
I will look into the Firefox issue right away, on our test Tiger systems (one G4 and one Intel) Firefox is still resolving the URLs properly.
Thank you for testing and the feedback - unfortunately when a new OS is released we end up fighting for a couple of weeks to find a happy medium. Vista did the same thing to us on the Windows side. -
Inappropriate? For users still on Tiger, an option is to revert back to the 0.9.1 version while we squash any remaining issues.
