Inappropriate? On Windows, RescueTime runs as a system tray application, so it might be running and just not appear to be doing so.
If it is running you should see the RescueTime icon in the lower right corner of your screen, next to the clock. To open the RescueTime preferences, you can right click on the icon and select Show Preferences.
If RescueTime isn't running and you aren't getting any error messages, it could be due to a faulty Windows .Net 2.0 Framework installation. If that is the case, you may want to try re-running the RescueTimeInstaller.exe file located at: http://www.rescuetime.com/installers/... -
Inappropriate?thanks, I tried the .exe file but still doesnt work. I dont have an icon on the corner or anything opens. Also tried uninstalling and reinstalling but no luck. I checked and it is installed, it just doesnt open....what could be wrong or what else could I try? am on xp pro SP2

Inappropriate?want to add, the icon I mentioned I use to open the program is the one on start/all programs/Rescu time/ Rescue Time
also tried the application icon on the folder on my c: hard drive where the application was installed (inside program files). neither of them opens anything...

Inappropriate?I'm afraid without any error messages, I really don't have an idea of what could be going on. Have you tried restarting your computer? Do you see messages of any kind?
-
Inappropriate?Thnaks Joe, yes I have restarted, and I dont see any kind of messages, the programs doesnt load, when I hit ctrl+alt+delete and check on programs and processes rescue time doesnt appear...is there someway to force the program to load maybe through another application?

Inappropriate?I have the same problem. I have installed the Rescue time installer and there was no icon in the tray. I then went to start programs and tried to start rescue time manually, still no icon in my tray. Is it possible that I am behind a firewall? Is it possible the the company that I work for blocked the application? Is it possible that Rescue time does not see the internet and therefore does not open?
-
Inappropriate?RescueTime should still attempt to open even if the application is being blocked by your firewall. Previously we had some issues with a stub updater application, but that has been removed and the auto-updating functionality has been rewritten, so even if you are not connected to the internet or have other network issues, RescueTime should start.
My only thought is to try removing the .Net 2.0 framework using Add/Remove Programs and then do a fresh install of RescueTime, which should automatically download and re-install the .Net 2.0 framework. -
Inappropriate?RescueTime no longer uses the .NET framework as of today-- a fresh download/install can/should solve this problem. Head to http://www.rescuetime.com/download (or sign up as a new user from the home page) to get the non .NET data collector. It also has a ton of other great benefits (smaller footprint, more accurate, etc., etc). Details on it are here:
