Rescue Time Error 3000
I just installed RescueTime, and can't login from work. I'm getting an Error 3000 message. My company uses and automatic proxy configuration URL, if that helps

Inappropriate? Here are some steps to troubleshooting RescueTime Proxy issues with the Windows data collector:
- Check to make sure your machine is able to communicate with the RescueTime servers outside of the data collector. To do this, open a web browser and paste in the following URL:
http://api.rescuetime.com/api/handsha...@test.com&password=test123
The result that should be returned back is: "login failure!"
- Next, do the same test but this time replace the test123 next to the email and password fields with the email address and password of your RescueTime account.
For example: http://api.rescuetime.com/api/handsha...@email.com&password=mypassword
The result that should be returned back is "login success!"
If the above tests fail then make sure your proxy is allowing traffic to api.rescuetime.com and also that your email address and password are correct. If you need, you can reset your password by going to www.RescueTime.com
If the above tests are successful continue with the following tests
- Open the RescueTime Preferences window and enter your email address and password in the Basic tab then click Verify.
This should result in a "login success!" message
If the above test fails then go to the Advanced tab and review the RescueTime Proxy Settings information for completeness. Different proxies have different requirements as to how this information should be filed out. The Detect Proxy will attempt to pull your settings from the Internet control panel, but this may not always work.
If you are still having problems send in any error messages you see in the Debug tab of the RescueTime Preferences window as well as information about which Proxy you are using. If possible, also send the values you are using on the RescueTime Proxy Settings.

Inappropriate?I am having the same problem. I just downloaded RescueTime and I get Error 3000 when trying to "verify" my account. I am not behind any proxy. Also, when I click on "Check for Updates" it gives me this message:
Error checking for updates, please try again later. Unable to connect to the remote server : System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 64.34.167.25:80
at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.DoConnect(EndPoint endPointSnapshot, SocketAddress socketAddress)
at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.InternalConnect(EndPoint remoteEP)
at System.Net.ServicePoint.ConnectSocketInternal(Boolean connectFailure, Socket s4, Socket s6, Socket& socket, IPAddress& address, ConnectSocketState state, IAsyncResult asyncResult, Int32 timeout, Exception& exception)
I also tried the steps listed above (I got "login success!" when testing the link with my account information).
Any thoughts on how I can get RescueTime to communicate with the outside world?
Thanks,
Rick

Inappropriate?Joe, one of my group members installed rescue time on a windows pc and it gave him this error. however, its working fine on another group member's pc. We're running on XP and are on the same network as the mac that reported error #6.
Would appreciate any help.

Inappropriate?Susheel, I'd love to work with you on the network issues that you are seeing with both the Mac and Windows data collector. This is somewhat exciting since we have never been able to reproduce this in any of our testing environments.
Could you email me at team@rescuetime.com with your email information. We can work through the issue through email and then I will post the results of our testing (and hopefully our fix) here.
Thank you! -
Inappropriate?Joe, I've mailed you on this. Unfortunately, I'm across the globe from you and its end of day here... Would appreciate a quick reply.
Cheers!

Inappropriate?I was having the same issue. The proxy was properly configured, and I could do everything fine from firefox, but not from the rescuetime app.
The solution? To uncheck the "Send updates using SSL" box.
Why the issue? Because at work EVERYTHING needs to go through the proxy, including SSL. Is there a way to make SSL go through the proxy? Firefox does it.

Inappropriate?I am still having the same problem. I have tried unchecking the "Send updates using SSL" box and still I am unable to connect. I continue to get the same error that I posted a few weeks ago (above). Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can diagnose/treat the problem here?

Inappropriate?Rick, are you behind any kind of firewall? Windows Firewall, Zone Alarm, anything that may be blocking RescueTime?
-
Inappropriate?I tried a lot of things, including disabling my Symantec Antivirus software. Finally I just completely uninstalled the Symantec Antivirus/Firewall client and then did a fresh install and now it's working. So it seems like something was going wrong in the symantec software somewhere. Thanks for all the help!
I’m happy
