Tech Crunch article
I don't remember giving permission to use my data, yet I just saw a Tech Crunch article that shows aggregated data from RescueTime users. Can someone explain?

Inappropriate?Well, we've always had the same privacy policy that's in the footer of every page of the site. We've also been pretty responsive any time anyone has asked (like here: http://getsatisfaction.com/rescuetime... )
We're not really in the data business-- and the more power we put into the hands of our users (in terms of deleting data and selectively sending data) our data gets less valuable. But we thought that the aggregate was interesting. As we discussed it with one of the TC guys over Twitter, he thought others might find it interesting as well.
The data represents 500,000 man hours spread over 30,000+ users. We don't see any danger of compromising anyone's individual privacy. I'm truly sorry that you do. For what it's worth-- we'll NEVER publish individual data (anonymized or no)-- as stated in the privacy policy.
If you are concerned by stuff like this, you might consider checking out your iSPs privacy policy. A whole mess of them sell data to services like compete.com (who ARE in the business of selling data for big dollars).
And, of course-- you'll want to make sure you aren't logged into Google when you search-- as they record your search history for 18 months and publish that data in a variety of ways.
And, even if you aren't logged in, they record and publish your search history in aggregate at Google Trends.
Anyhoo, we are sorry if anyone is put off by this. Unfortunately for those that are, it's likely that we'll post aggregate data in some form in the future. If you are still concerned after reading this, you could check out our whitelists feature (http://www.rescuetime.com/whitelists ), delete any data you want to delete, or nuke your whole account (that option is available on the settings page).
I’m wishing we could make everyone happy.

Inappropriate?I suppose was surprised to see the results in the TechCrunch article. After posting I did take a look at the privacy policy and saw that it did mention data that is collected.
I've learned now that I really need to check privacy policies.
As for the article -- it was interesting, but I'd interpret it differently. I think that folks who use RescueTime, for the most part, do so to keep track of their work hours and most companies use Microsoft based products. We may be considered early adopters because we use RescueTime, but that has no bearing on what applications we sometimes have to use for work.
I’m not sure, but sorry I overreacted.
