Vista plus new installer still won't install update
I'm running Vista and can't get the latest installation to finish. I ran the RescueTimeInstaller.exe first per the latest instructions for Vista users. At the final stage of the installation, before clicking "Finish", if I exit the program the installation dialog disappears. If I don't exit and I click "Finish" the installation fails and it doesn't identify the error. Just says "Check log for details". (I am a newcomer so have yet to find where the log is.)

Inappropriate?I'm looking into it now. I'll let you know what I find out.
Thanks! -
Inappropriate?Ok, try these steps:
1. Quit RescueTime (if it is running)
2. In your web browser go to http://www.RescueTime.com/installers/...
3. When the dialog asks you to Run, Save, or Cancel - Select Run
4. You will see a couple of warning dialogs asking you to make sure you want to do this, select Allow
5. The installer should then run and install RescueTime 1.0.2 on your computer, hopefully without any errors.
I think the problem was that the Installer and the Updater were conflicting with each other when you tried the first time. This should resolve that issue.
Let me know if that works or doesn't!
Thank you -
Inappropriate?Hi Joe,
I had already tried that. But did again to no avail. Even time I turn on the computer Rescue time shows updates available, with the advice for Vista users to do the install driver (which I did, after quitting RescueTime). I keep getting the same error message.
I just did a complete uninstall and then went to the website and reinstalled. Powered down, restarted and so far so good. No error messages and it looks like it's tracking again.
If you have any other suggestions let me know. Thanks!

Inappropriate?Thank you for the feedback on what ended up working for you. Could you let me know which version of Vista you are running?
I'm trying to track down Vista issues and I'm beginning to wonder if there isn't some differences between Vista Business (which is what our test system is running) and other Vista versions.
Thank you! -
Inappropriate?Got your email re: what version of Vista I'm using. It's Vista Home Basic. I use PC Tools Firewall but can "allow" RescueTime so don't think that was the issue.

Inappropriate?I had this problem to. I followed Joe's instructions to quit RT, and then reinstall manually and it works. But it's really annoying that the auto-updater is not working properly.

Inappropriate?During this last update we were in sort of a "transition" period between moving off of the old updater (AutoUpdate+) and getting the new custom updater installed. My hope is that updates from now on are a lot more Vista friendly.
I'd love to get some assistance in testing Vista updates from a couple of people who have had problems in the past.
I've got an update ready for testing now, so if you are interested in giving me feedback on how it works for Vista, send me an email to team@rescuetime.com
Thank you! -
Inappropriate?I uninstalled and reinstalled, as I said I would above. No problems there.
RT just informed me that there was an update - presumably that's the one mentioned by Joe - so I installed it, and there were no problems.
I think there should be more care taken in the future when making such sensitive changes.
I’m pleased it seems to be fixed.

Inappropriate?I tested the all-new updater on a Vista Home - works like a champ. Thanks, Joe, for the updated updater!
