How much does leaving contracts cost !?
How much will it cost me to leave a 3-year contract, if I was only in it for a year? I've heard a variety of things, but I'm not really sure what I can do. I have a couples plan, but rogers is completely ripping us off so I want out of it! Any thoughts?

Inappropriate?Yes, They charge between $200 and $400 and depending on what plan you are you may have to pay another penalty fee on top of that.
A friend of mine left her contract 1 or 2 days before the end of a 2 year contract and she got charged $200. I left my contract a few hours before my contract would be over (3 year) and they also charged me $200. I tried to tell them I would call once I was sure the contract was over and the guy said(customer service) he had already cancel it so I had to pay $200 anyway...
They do not like it if you also transfer your phone number with you. The agent I had got a little racy and colorful on his "protection" of the company policy. And then said it was my fault for changing companies... etc...
They say they cannot give you any information about your account until the next bill comes out, that is complete BS. They blame the computer system so that you cannot bitch at them.
So, if you leave you contract around the first year get ready to pay somewhere around the $400 mark. (per phone)
Next time I am buying an unlocked phone from another company for $300 and going on a "no contract" agreement. That way I can cancel whenever I want...

Inappropriate?Just moved from England to Canada and I am shocked at the terrible service agreement Rogers offers. Vodafone in the UK was AMAZING in service and agreement structure (after 1 year no penalties). Rogers agreement is a clearly reflective of "we're a monoploy so we can do it". I heard the mobile market is opening up in 6 months to create more competition? I'd love Vodafone to come to Canada...

Inappropriate?I'll second that, I loved the service I got from Vodafone Spain and from SFR in France. If Vodafone came to Canada Rogers would be totally screwed. The new companies that just opened up for cell service are Koodo and Yak but they are not 3G or GSM, that's the main problem with competition here. I did hear that Bell and Telus were thinking of switching over to 3G.

Inappropriate?http://ca.cellswapper.com/ is a website that allows you to cell your contract to someone else who needs it without having to pay a penalty to Rogers.

Inappropriate?Compared to England and the UK, Rogers' contracts are unreasonable. You effectively have no choice but to get a 3 year contract and they are a monopoly so if you need a Blackberry or IPhone, you're stuck and they know it. I've heard the industry is opening up in 6 months for more competition. Thankfully. Vodafone would run right over Rogers - they are really good. For now you're best bet is to see if Rogers' isn't supplying the service they said they would in the contract, and use that to opt out without fees. Otherwise you pay ridiculous fees to opt out. Vodafone UK gave me a blackberry with media card for free, and their agreements are reasonable, plus they helped me transfer from UK to Canada even after I ended the agreement. Great people.

Inappropriate?Yeah, same here...
Vodafone Spain transfered me to SFR in France. No fees, no worries, I arrived to Paris and my phone was working fine...
