Inappropriate? My contract has expired and I want to switch over to another GSM provider but I want to use phones I bought from Rogers but they are locked. So I called Rogers customer service and ask them how to unlock my phones. They said: "Go to any Rogers store and they will be able to unlock your phones". I have visited a few stores already and people there have no idea how to unlock the phones. They say they never heard that they could do that and that I am the first person asking them to do that. Any ideas what's going on?
I’m angry already

Inappropriate?I have finally received official response from Rogers customer service: "We regret to inform you that we currently do not unlock Rogers phones.
You may be able to contact the manufacturer to see if they would unlock
the mobile phone, however, if an outside party other then Rogers unlocks
the phone, the warranty is immediately discontinued."
How I understand that means that I bought phones from Rogers but Rogers do not allow me to use those phones with other networks.
I am not a lawyer and can't say right away how this offenses my customer rights but I am sure it does and I am going to find out. If anyone here can give a clue please share.
I’m pissed off

Inappropriate?Quote: "the warranty is immediately discontinued"
As I said on another post, Rogers laws on cells are the following:
"You warranty is either 30 minutes of talk time or 30 days whichever comes first. After that period, the warranty is 1 year with the manufacturer. It does not cover broken screens, acts of god, abuse, etc"
In other words, after you are done your 30 minutes of talk time you have no warranty on the phone...
Rogers will charge you up to $150 for diagnostics, if you need service...
Again Rogers has the monopoly and abuse it big time...
As far as I am concerned as soon as those 30 minutes are up you can hack and trash you phone as much as you like...
Rogers has an agreement with the cell phone makers so if your phone is an LG (for example) . You can call LG but they will tell you that Rogers has to approve of the unlock (which they probably won't) and you may have to pay a fee for them to release the code to you... -

Inappropriate?check with google..don't know if it works with newer phones but i had two nokia 3390s that i downloaded a program for (found with google). all you had to do was type in the imei and have it generate possible codes to type into the phone to unlock it. only catch was if you make a mistake on the code more than 5 times the phone is locked permanently. lucky me only got 2 codes generated for each phone and had 2 unlocked phones at the end of it :D

Inappropriate?I used http://unlock.mobileincanada.com and i received the unlock code in only 3 hours(overnight) and followed the instructions on the tracking page (yeah, they have a tracking page!). It worked like a charm! Now I will be able to use my phone in Europe without incurring roaming charges.

Inappropriate?unlkocktotalk.com is the site that I always use

Inappropriate?Historically, you can't unlock rogers (GSM) to Telus (CDMA). However, I am not sure if that will still be the case once Telus's new GSM network goes live, which I believe is very soon. I'd call up Telus and ask whether you can sign up with them and use an unlocked GSM phone that you already own

Telus' 3G network is up already, also Bell's 3G is working already... Rogers is supposed to have their 4G network up sometime in Dec./Jan for the Olympics in Vancouver ...
