I'm using airfoilspeakers on linux (ubuntu 8.04). Streaming works very well from Airfoil (Windows). My problem: I can't save volume settings and auto transmit for the linux "device". As I can see in the Airfoil registry settings, linux airfoilspeakers uses a different (randomly generated?) device ID everytime it is started. This leads to Airfoil always recognizing the device as new, setting the volume to zero and ignoring an enabled auto transmit option. As a side effect, Airfoil fills it's registry settings with numerous useless volume settings and auto transmit ID's for devices, that will never appear again.

My question: Why doesn't linux airfoilspeakers use the mac address of the machine it is running for identification, as the windows version does? The MAC doesn't change and volume and auto transmit setting could be saved.

does "Airfoil Speakers for Linux" work with ipv6 ? I got the impression it doesn't.

The command line help of linux airfoilspeakers mentions a '--config-file' option:

'--config-file file sets the location of the config file (default /home/dasschaf/.config/airfoilspeakers_settings.cfg)'

Is there any further documentation about the config file? What options can be configured in the file, what is the syntax for the config, ...?

Is there a way to directly connect other speakers - either via headphone output or even a USB audio card - and NOT turn the built-in iMac speakers off? I can simulate this with AirFoil through an Airport Express... but could airfoil help do this without an AE?

I installed the latest Airfoil Speakers using the .deb package onto Ubuntu Jaunty. I can successfully connect to the Linux box from Airfoil on Windows, but a couple of seconds after the connection establishes (with no sound), this happens:

Can I start AirFoil Speakers on Linux (XUbuntu) start without GUI?
So I do not need a X-Server.

Maybe a crazy idea, but are you working on a version for Android, specifically the T-Mobile G1 phone?

I would really love it to just use my phone instead of booting up the imac or getting the macbook out of its sleeve to listen to last.fm and friends!

Running Ubuntu 8.10 with latest Airfoil Speakers installed. Airfoil from Mac can connect (and Airfoil Speakers recognizes it) but no audio and it freezes up X.

I'm running Airfoil Speaker on a Linksys NSLU2 running Debian Lenny.

Everything seems to work, Airfoil connects to it and starts playing no problem. On the console side I see the client connected.

However, I'm getting no sound output from the speakers attached to the USB sound stick attached to the NSLU2.

I have pulseaudio installed.

When pulseaudio is running and asound.conf is configured to use pulseaudio as its default device and esound emulation is turned on:

1. aplay [soundfile] works
2. esdcat -s localhost [soundfile] works
3. esdcat -s [ip] [soundfile] works

When pulseaudio is not running and asound.conf is configured to use the USB sound stick as its default device:

1. aplay [soundfile] works

In both situations I tried Airfoil Speaker, both showed no errors and ran normally, but no sound was produced.

I recently installed AirfoilSpeakers on a CentOS 5.0. Not using GUI, just command line.
I could install it, and installed all of its dependencies as well.
When I run the application (airfoilspeakers), it gives me the following error:
