I'm just at the moment thinking about "how much" time and effort I put into Get Satisfaction in terms of ideas I share, questions I ask and problems I report (mainly all to your company, Get Satisfaction) and how many new companies, products and services I add. I'm not saying I'm "great" nor that I'm the one putting "a lot" (or the most) effort in here, but somehow, just the idea of a little "reward system" for doing all this stuff, came to my mind. Maybe just like the points you get on Yahoo! Answers.

Maybe in the long run you could work together with some larger, "richer" ^_^ firms (which of course also joined GSFN and are present here) and set-up a reward system including real reward points like...(I don't know what's there in the USA, UK and AU, but here we do have e.g. "webmiles", "Payback" and "Miles & More")... frequent flyer points for example or any other loyalty program reward points...

For the process: You could track:
* Answers given
* Answers given, that were marked "one of the best points" / "this solves the problem"
* Bugs reported
* Ideas contributed
* Ideas contributed, that were implemented
* Companies and products created (don't know if it would be possible to also track down if you added single elements?)

etc.

just wondering why there's no one thinking about the neat and must-have feature of clicking on a product (or company) and have an option to see, which ...

1.1. ... people "use" that product.
1.2. ... people "interact(ed)" with that product.
(1.2., yes you see that indirectly / partly via the recent topics.)

2.1. ... of your friends/contact on Get Satisfaction "use" that certain product.
2.2. ... of your friends/contact on Get Satisfaction "interact(ed)" with that certain product.

Interact = Ask a question / share an idea / report a problem etc. ;-)

This idea might have already come up:
3.1. Recommend a certain topic / product / company to a contact/friend on Get Satisfaction. (so no share/tweet/facebook', but just recommending, e.g. to get the other one join your idea or complaint. ;p ...)

Quick-invite a company?

Hi there,

as I do really appreciate and do like Get Satisfaction (except for some missing features ;-)), I do want to recommend it to as many companies as possible! How can I?

I'd really like to see a way to invite a company quickly and appropriately, resulting in a successful usage of Get Satisfaction by this company, when they do really get the value of your service!

Of course I still have to search for an appropriate e-mail address, but maybe a beautiful HTML e-mail with space for a comment for this happy customer dude, who invited the company would be great!

What do you think?

PS: Of course I know, not everyone thinks HTML e-mails are "beautiful", but I think it contributes massively to readability and a quick overview, especially if someone is new to a service! I personally am tired of those plain text Courier New newsletters I get everyday...

@Firefox_Queries is the opposite of @firefox_answers, listing all the recently created threads for Mozilla Firefox. It's using Twitterfeed now, but it'd be neat if companies could set these up directly in Get Satisfaction (and using the gsfn.us links). As well, if it could extend to Overheard wherein our 'bot' would be used instead of the getsatisfaction bot to communicate with people, that would be neat.

Salesforce is installed in many a Support Org, including ours,... seems like offering a version of GS for Salesforce AppExchange could be a good idea. GS would be providing a community-based funnel for support issues into Salesforce while vetting ideas and questions across the customer community.

Salesforce Appexchange has a "Community Mgmt" section classified under "Support" apps,... but, interestingly, no apps are currently offered there.

I'd like to be able to search through all posts, unrelated to thread topics.

As far as I can tell, the search feature only searches through the text and tags in a thread topic. Is there more search options that I'm not aware of? I'd like to be able to search through all replies and comments for a particular product.

Can you add more search options?

* search through all posts in a set of threads
(This might be easier to implement than full search through all posts, below.)
(i.e. search through all threads that a particular person has participated in , or is following)

* search through all posts (well, all posts for that company or product)

I'd like to find replies that I've read once, but forgot where they are. It's so frustrating to not be able to find it again because I've forgotten which topic it was in reply to. The reply might only be marginally related to the topic of the thread the reply is in. It might be the best response in the world, but if it was at all off-topic then I'll never be able to find it again. Quite often, interesting posts address a broader idea than the topic does, an idea the thread creator didn't consider. So the topic might not have many keywords in common with what the reply addressed. And what keyword it does have is shared among 30 other threads.

I'd like to refer back to these replies, and point others to them, but I have a real hard time finding them again. Even if I remember the topic of the thread the reply is in, I still have to manually search through several threads with similar topics to find the particular reply I'm looking for.

Some people are known for giving good advise, I'd like to be able to search for anything they said about a particular idea. Right now, I'm forced to go to their profile page and manually search through every "page" of replies that they've posted. (maybe 12 or 20 or 40 pages) Isn't there an easier way to do this? (I also have to do this for replies that "I've* written previously. I don't remember what thread they were in.)

Another option is to "tag" these replies, mark them as useful. I know that this option already exists, but there seems to be a problem. It's unclear what to do when the reply doesn't fit with the type of "tag" that's available. The useful reply may be very interesting, but it doesn't necessarily "answer the question", or "solve the problem". Instead it might tell you who to ask or where to look or other options for getting more information on the question, or a workaround to the problem.

It's difficult for users to find a link back to our website after they get into GS. Add a link to the top of each company's homepage in GS and also at the top of each topic.

Can you add more search options to the drop down box? (Along with "recent activity", "most popular", "latest activity", and "unanswered".) Also, how am I supposed to reverse the sort order of the current search options? (How can I have the search for "most popular" be in reverse order, so it would really be "least popular"?)

2.1. "unpopular" (i.e. "not popular", "0 popularity") - topic and all replies are authored by a single person. (1 person participating) This is the kind of the reverse sort order from "most popular", except that this search limits the results to threads with 1 person participating.
2.2. "no company involvement" (all additions / questions / comments are from non-company users) (i.e. "0 employees helping")
2.3. "unsolved" (could also be called "unanswered") A thread with 0 "solutions" or "good points" (i.e. a Problem with "0 replies marked as a solution", a Question with "0 replies marked as an answer", an Idea with "0 point marked best", a Discussion with 0 points marked ...)
2.4. "solved" (Reverse of above. Something was flagged "solved" recently, which you want to review again. :))
2.5 "in progress" or "working on it" -- topics that are currently being implemented or changed by the company (i.e. Problems marked as "The company is working on this problem", Ideas marked as "The company is working on this idea", Questions marked as "The company is working on this question", )
2.6 "most replies" (This is kind of the reverse from "0 replies" see below, except that "0 replies" limits the results to threads with a particular number of replies.) Note that "most replies" is not the same as "popular". "Popular" refers to how many people are participating, not the number of replies.
2.7 Also, you might want to rename "unanswered" to "0 replies". (The word "unanswered" can have multiple meanings and is confusing. It may mean that it is an "unanswered question" (unsolved, does not include an "answer" although it may have a reply) or that it is "unanswered by a company employee")

love this site. discovered it 5 minutes ago by accident when i wanted to figure out a twitter problem. can't wait to set up my own company... but don't want to have to spend so much time tracking the issues i've gotten involved in or asked questions about.

A member of the Atheist Nexus recently pointed out that it would be a good idea to have an option to somehow link a gsfn account with a user's current account (instead of creating a new GSFN one) as this would allow them to post without having to remember two logins (or login twice) and would help them use support more.

Any ideas if this could be handled somehow?

I am thinking that another possible solution would be to allow posting with OpenID authentication which could automatically create a GSFN account (in case the user wants to edit it) and if the other service allows the same, then multiple account issues can at least be resolved through that path.

Clicking "Inappropriate" by accident or curiosity is something that happened to me too. So I suggest either asking before putting the post under review, either allow to undo the action from the secondary dialog that opens for more info.

I think it would be a good idea if it was possible to somehow post a topic for someone else and make it obvious that it is not coming from you. The reason I'd like this is because I recently started a new support forum and I transferred a lot of topics that were asked around the place in individual threads, and I'd like if it didn't seem that they were all coming from me.

Perhaps it could be done similarly to the way Overheard does it, where the topic makes it obvious that it wasn't the poster's original idea.

Maybe a check box when you create a topic saying "I'm posting this for someone else" and an option to provide a name and a URL. Once the topic is posted, it coudl use a neutral avatar for the poster and at some obvious place, if a URL was provided, it would link to the place the original comment was posted. For example, this could replace the "db0 Overheard..." part on the side

Another option would be to be able to create topics from emails. For example I got an email for a problem recently and I would love to have an option to paste it into a special form which would parse the header and create a topic from it like:

Db0 received an email from <name> on </name><time>...</time>

That topic could then automatically send an invitation to the sender's email who would be able to follow a link in the email and join GSFN quickly and without hassle, and then go straight to the response.

The email should again have a neutral avatar and I could then proceed to provide support publicly in GSFN instead of email and get all the associated benefits of that.

"Quick-Edit (text)" button missing

I'd really like to have a "Quick Edit" button like you find some in many forums.
The reason is, most of the time, when I correct something, I do only correct the text itself, and in most of this cases it is something about the paragraph format (I'm perfectionist ;)) or the text formatting or a typo.

The reason I want this, that sometimes Get Satisfaction is slow in my case and of course I do have to scroll today. So I do expect it to save me time when using GSFN!

Separation of topics created by oneself and others in the personal dashboard

I do have a problem with the real information overload created by creating, answering and subsequently subscribing to all these topics, both to those self-created and to those from others. I did propose several measures against the mess already, but that's not enough.

You must have the possibility to separate the news in your dashboard at the most important and common position (from my point of view):

a) News in topics, that I created. (and maybe answered / commented too)
b) News in topics, that others created and I subscribed to. (and maybe answered / commented too)

So in this case, it isn't about answering, commenting or "voting" as the divider, it is about the question, who created the content in the first place.

Why is this so important?

I think I will remember the topics I subscribed to exactly and I know the ones created of course too. And will interact on these topics anyway, so it is often not about to find a single comment or comments at all (because I'd maybe reaally like (to only use) comments, they're so cute! ;-P), it is always centered around a certain topic.

The other point is, that even if I would be able to drill down the topics to some with a "My topics" search (which you'll soon be implementing, I'm sure. ;-)), it wouldn't help, if let's say I maybe forgot the important keywords or just think about the wrong ones.
(I assume that the topic wasn't created that long ago.)

The normal way, this one topic would get lost e.g. in the huge list of new activity on other topics created by me (if the topic I search is not created by me...). The new way, I could find the recent topic very quickly, as it'll show up immediately as the (almost) first item! This is of course correct also the other way 'round (maybe I'm not creating many topics, but mostly following and commenting.).

The registration was way too much for our users that just want to drop us a line that something's not working or they had a random thought. Can we get "quick" option that doesn't require signup, and maybe a "Sign in to get more..."?

We had to revert back to our old system where we just ask for email and give them a box to type in. Would love to switch back if this becomes available though. Thanks!

I'd like to really see buttons / the functionality for enlarging (and shrinking) of all the text fields (boxes?) here on GS, that are for starting a new topic or answering one (not including comments, which is discussed here (but doesn't include my idea)).

This is especially a point because of the new interface design on the companies home sites, as the text boxes there are really small.

Technically, this should be solved with a technique, that is basically also usable without a mouse. (I don't know the name of the language, but I know examples in the www, but don't find them currently...will add them soon...)

Explanations:

Of course there should be also a clickable red button (or green one with a "+", to be consistent), when e.g. I'd not be follow the company "LinkedIn" yet.
Concerning this button, I have to add that I consciously used the term "customer of this company" instead of the verb "use", which is used by you "undifferentiated" for both products & companies on ones own "Your products & companies" site!

Concerning the "three answers" you might get shown the first answers with a (maybe AJAXified / ROR) pop-up button to move you to the next anchor. Somehow like with HTML anchors etc. (I'm not that sure about the the tech stuff, really. O.o)

The display of the position and company name under the picture and name of a person adds to the interaction (possibilities), what I think is of great value!
