I'm searching for support forum software to use for my company's website, and I'm interested in the different, friendlier approach offered by GS. The issue is that we'd need the forum to be on our site, and furthermore in the support area of our site, so that only our own customers could log in to see the questions, discussions, etc. in order to prevent this information from being accessible to our competitors (much as I'd like to be more open and transparent in this respect, I'm bound by policy).
Now, Help Center seems like it suits those requirements, but I'm a little confused so I'm seeking advice and confirmation. The confusion arises because in my research (here on this site) I see references to PHP5 applications calling the GS API (and implying that the database is stored on the GS site), but also references to MySQL databases (implying that the database is stored on the company site), and references to multiple accounts, specifically accounts at getsatisfaction.com (suggesting that even if the forum code and database is stored on my site, my users still need to be registered with, and log in through, getsatisfaction.com in order to use Help Center on my site).
Note that I've been deliberately naive in some of my statements just above, but I am confused and would greatly appreciate a clear description of how the architecture for Help Center works in practice (without needing to sign up for and download Help Center) - I'm surprised that this information isn't obviously available, but expect that it is available, somewhere.
Thanks
John
