I've a question. I google for it. I find a forum where it's asked. But there is no solution.
Why can't I "overhear" that forums question?
In my case this happened to me with the AVG question I posted.
I see that overhearing a problem on twitter has the advantage that you can inform the person that asked the question on twitter about getsatisfaciton activity.
.. But some question are asked somewhere else.
Isn't there maybe a blog-like talkback link in some php-forum solutions?
And I was surprised not to find a mark up language for links (I didn't search for it) or a field to post the link, so it could be used in some intelligent way. ...Hm, I don't know.
Hey, have you noticed we've made some changes around here? We just pushed out a big upgrade to the search and topic posting functionality.
Specifically: Instead of a big search/entry box at the top of the page (which sometimes could get confusing -- is it post? is it search?) we now have a much cleaner "Start a topic" button you can use. And it still does suggested topics, but now it does it real-time as you type in your topic.
Along with this, we've made searching for topics much easier to do in the header. We also (finally) have a page full of search results for each company that you can use, and if you don't find the answer you're looking for, we also make it really easy to start a topic from the search page.
Really interested to hear what you think about the changes! Post your thoughts/ideas/suggestions right here and let's talk about 'em.
I just ran into a link-labeling issue that caused me some consternation until I just took a chance — and it ended up being the right thing to do.
When editing a comment, the cancellation option says "cancel this comment" (I believe you're simply re-using the same form for the item I just added behind the scenes). It should say "cancel this update" or, even better, "leave this comment unchanged".
I had thought it might actually cancel or delete my comment, so I copied my text (in case it went poof!) and gave it a whirl. So it wasn't the functionality that was off: just the label.
I just replied to a posting by someone else and after a while the posting didn't seem to have gone through (the Submit spinner was still a-spinnin') so I hit the Cancel link and tried again. I did this a couple of times and eventually the posting did go through.
But in the meantime I received 3 notifications about my reply via email -- as did, I'm guessing, everyone else following the topic.
Could you guys wait until after the posting has completely finished (including displaying it to the user) to fire off the notification? Or make email notification asynchronous overall.
(I'd be glad to fill you in on our setup if it helps.)
