Awesome overview interface improvement.
Well done Leslie!

Inappropriate? Thanks! We all worked hard to come up with a UI that would help users to focus, rather than confuse them. Leslie worked on this design for a number of weeks, and Ted and I busted our arses to make it real.
I’m glad you like it
-
Inappropriate? Thanks Stephan! You summed up the goals of the re-design quite nicely. I was going to point out that all of our efforts are team efforts, but Cam jumped in and stole my moment of grace. ;)
I think you'll be happy to know that we will be continuing work on this page and a few new features will pop-up over the next weeks. In particular we'll be adding some light weight ways to let a company know how you feel about them. Also, feel free to let me know if any part of the re-design isn't working for you. Thanks again for the kudos.

I’m proud.

Inappropriate?both cam and leslie are lying. i did the whole thing.
I’m lying. i didn't have a thing to do with it!
-
Inappropriate?I can vouch for Lane. He didn't have a thing to do with it. In fact has anyone seen him around the office lately? Seems like he spends all his time at the country club with the suits.
Fore!
('fore' is officially the new 'burn')
I’m amused

Totally fored! Nice! -
fore you! -
Inappropriate?Really great work, guys!! 8-)
Just wanted to chime in with my $0.02.
Fwiw, the two improvements that I appreciate the most are:
(a) the fact that topic states are now plainly visible (e.g., this is solved, this is being considered). I hope this will encourage the company admins to use that feature more often.
(b) the name of the last user to have posted an update is reflected. Saves me a lot of time! 8-)
There are a couple of things that I had grown dependent on, however, that are now missing and that I hope you'll consider adding back in some form:
1. Tags are no longer displayed
I go on tagging sprees every now and then, and with the old UI, I could skim the overview page and easily see which topics could use some additional metadata. Now I have to open each topic and check them individually.
2. Topic creation dates are no longer displayed
Perhaps this is less of an issue for other companies, but in the Twitter forum, the same symptoms and problems have a way of recurring so GSFN users tend to create topic threads that have very similar titles. The topic-create-date was helpful to me as a way of gauging whether or not something is an old problem (which I can therefore skip).
3. Also, I hope you'll pardon this lazy user request -- can we have an option to "expand all" and "collapse all" to save me the trouble of clicking "more..." with each topic?
It could be just me, but after a few days with this interface, I find myself invariably clicking "more..." on each topic as I go through the overview page, because the title isn't enough of a basis for me to gauge whether or not it's a topic that I can contribute to.
P.S.
I know this is slightly offtopic, but just wanted to say also that I love the way the 'add an image' feature is just there. *thumbs up*
Thanks, GSFN team!
I’m in a good mood
-
Hope your requests get heard. :) Will follow this (too). *note to self* -
Inappropriate? We hear you. 1 and 2 are no brainers (they should be added back.) For #3 we'll have to think about a bit, but maybe for the time being I can add a keyboard shortcut to expand all just for you and me :)
I’m thankful
-
Inappropriate?Hi all,
I just arrived here via a tech support link from Filtrbox ... filled in my post comments and at the end went to create an account on-the-fly. Filled in my email and password for the new account......Then the popup panel froze with a Javascript syntax error. I couldn't click anywhere or go "home" so am unsure if my post made it. I am using IE 7. Withn the JS error, I notice that all the words in my post were added to a long URL string (for an HTTP GET?), which is fine in non-IE browsers however IE has a URL length limit of 2083 chars. The UI is nice but be sure to test some more and iron out all the bugs...
THanks ! Rob from Ashland MA.
I’m Hmm.

Thanks Robert, and sorry about that. We recently made some changes to that page. Let me look into it for you. -
Inappropriate?@ted & @mdy
1 and 2 are no brainers (they should be added back.) For #3 we'll have to think about a bit...
Mdy your smart contributions and friendliness make you the kind of person we really want our interface to work for. With that in mind we're building advanced views specifically for really active champions of a company like yourself. In the meantime we'll try to keep the experience for first time or less advanced users as simple as possible. In my opinion #3 is the no brainer and we should consider putting more meta info inside the expanded topics. We'll keep working on it for you.
I’m appreciative.
-
Yes that's what I was thinking. -
Inappropriate?Aw, thanks so much, Leslie! 8-)
Actually, I was thinking along similar lines -- if an 'Expand all' feature were available, I'd be perfectly content with having the additional metadata (#1 and #2 above) hidden in the collapsed view and visible only in the expanded view... especially since I expect I'll have everything in the expanded view all the time.
Edited to add:
I also realize that I'm a bit of an edge case, so my 'wish list' is probably not representative of the majority of GSFN's users. So if any of the stuff that I've asked for unnecessarily complicates things, just let me know.
I’m thankful
-
You're welcome. Although you're an edge case, you're also the kind of GS user we'd like to empower (and model) as much as possible, so keep the good feedback coming! -
Inappropriate?Hi Robert, I'm trying to reproduce the bug you found, but am having some trouble. Could you give me a little more information about the steps you took to produce this bug?
How did you get to the topic form?
What did the body of your topic look like?
Did you attach an image to your topic?
What version of IE7 are you using?
What OS are you on?
I know it's a lot to ask, but every little bit helps.
I’m thankful
-
Inappropriate?Hi Ted,
I came to http://getsatisfaction.com/filtrbox
Entered the text of my question,
Added a title, did not include an image.
Before finishing & posting, I noticed the same JS error had appeared :
JS Error
Line 1277, Char 7
Error: 'attributes' is null or not an object
Code: 0
URL: http://getsatisfaction.com/filtrbox/t...
My short message seems to have fit in this URL.. but I know from experience it's a bad idea to try to put more than 2083 chars into a URL if you have IE users.
I was able to submit the question, enter my existing username/password in the popup panel, with success.
Looks like the earlier problem may have been with a longer question text, OR in the "create acct on-the-fly" function. Maybe that feature should be in a separate browser window or otherwise decoupled from the post process.
I'm running: IE7 (7.0.5730) , Windows XP SP2.
Thanks, Rob
I’m undecided
-
Thank you! This helps a lot. I'm continuing to look into it -
We'll this really helped us track down the bug. It's a bug in a javascript library we're using called prototype. We've upgraded to the latest version and the bug has been fixed. We'll be doing a deploy soon to fix it on the live site. Thanks Rob your feedback has been invaluable. -
Inappropriate?Hello. I was wondering -- is it possible to filter the list of topics in the overview page by status?
I use the term "status" to refer to things like "the company is aware of this problem" or "the company is working on this problem"
I don't know how helpful it will be to other users. And I only thought of it because I found myself wondering how many topics GSFN is currently working on right now.
I’m too nosy for my own good
-
Inappropriate? No, you're not too nosy. This is something that has come up -- that came up yesterday, in fact. This would be a big help. I know that we at Get Satisfaction have seen tons of great ideas that we are either considering or working on. But, without being able to keep track of them, some of them will undoubtedly get lost in the shuffle.
I don't think that is possible right now. I'll let others chime in about how that might work. It could be something as simple as the drop-down box we currently use for filtering:
-
Haha! You're too kind, Eric. 8-) And fwiw, the use of a drop-down was the first thing to come to mind too. -
Inappropriate?Hi Mdy!
You're reading our minds. We're working on an advanced view of the topic list. It's going to have a plethora of filtering options including status, replies, topic type, tags, company involvement. I'd like to get you using it before we release it to the public. Send me an email at leslie@getsatisfaction.com and I'll see if we get you on as an alpha user when it's ready for testing.
I’m a fan of earnest feedback.
