How do I plug this information into Help Center and get it up and running?
Thanks,
Mark

Inappropriate?Hi Mark,
boot.php contains the default values for how Help center connects to the database.
You can edit the values there, or override those values by creating a config.php (if it doesn't exist) and placing the correct values there.
Does that make sense? -
Inappropriate?P.S.
The variables names are mysql_username, mysql_password, mysql_db, and mysql_connect_params. -
Inappropriate?Scott, I was half worried that'd be what you'd say. Because that's what I did, and I'm still getting the blank page you can see when you visit the site.
Many thanks for the excellent service you guys provide, and any other suggestions?
I’m confused but calmed by the help so far

Inappropriate?Mark, have you checked your webserver's error log?
-
Inappropriate?I haven't. Meet my technical inadequacy as I ask 'How do I do that?'
Thanks so much,
Mark -
Inappropriate?Sorry for the delays Mark, I'm bouncing back and forth between checking Satisfaction and preparing for a trip tomorrow :)
If you are on Apache, I can think of several places your log could be:
on ubuntu or debian: /var/log/apache2/error.log
on CentOS, fedora, or RedHat: /var/log/httpd/error.log
If you browse through that file, hopefully there is some info about why PHP is dieing.
My guess right now is that your templates_c folder doesn't have the proper permissions and so Smarty can't write out the cached php templates, hence no display. The log should tell us more.

Inappropriate?Ah, the problem I've got now is that I'm on shared hosting. So I can't reach the var directory for log files. Thanks so much for your help again, and have a great trip.
Any suggestions as to how I need to be changing permissions?

Inappropriate?Mark, do you know if your hosting runs mysql on the same machine? I installed the helpcenter on monday, and got a blank page all day, but once i entered the correct address for the mysql server it all worked like a charm.
If I remeber correctly the permissions for templates_c directory should be 755, you should be able to change it either via ssh or a regular ftp client.

Inappropriate? The permissions change fixed it! Many thanks to Audun and Scott for pointing me in the right direction!
I’m pleased to have HelpCenter ready to skin
