feeling spammed by amount of email updates!
i've been receiving so many email updates from one of the topics that i started that i've decided to turn off email updates for all topics in satisfaction. maybe i'm missing some very obvious controls, but here is what i'm looking for:
1.) the ability to restrict *how often* i receive email updates (every time an update is made to a topic, or 1x per day, or 1x per week, etc.). this feature does not appear to exist in the current release.
2.) the ability to unsubscribe from specific topics that i've started. right now unsubscribing from topic updates via email is an "all or nothing" affair, which is frustrating.
3.) the ability to subscribe to updates to my topics as an RSS feed. i would *really* prefer to receive updates on topics in my RSS reader, which i visit when i have time, versus in my email, which i try to restrict to personal communication.

This is great feedback. There is good news on your #2: If you deselect the "Follow this topic" option under the topic box you will stop receiving the email updates. Also, we will be rolling out a digest version of the updates sometime in the future.
An upcoming version of the dashboard page will give you the updates to your topics that you're wanting. Stay tuned!

actually, i only see the "Follow This Topic" box for topics that i *haven't* started -- for topics that i *have* started (for example, this topic), i don't see that box or any way to unsubscribe from that topic. am i missing something obvious? :)

Inappropriate?Interesting. That's actually a bug that was introduced in the last revision to the topic actions. It's been logged, the fix will be out in the next release.

Sorry about this, it's my fault! I'll fix it ASAP, but until then you can go into your dashboard and turn off email updates so that you stop receiving the mail.

Inappropriate?re #2: we're about to make an update to the email notifications that will allow you to stop following that one particular topic right from inside any notification of email reply to that topic -- so at least when there are a bunch of messages coming from one topic, you can shut it off with a minimum of frustration. it's not perfect, but it's an ok stopgap until we're able to make more extensive changes to your ability to monitor your own participation.
#1 is something we definitely need to get in there. #3 is a great idea. we've got a couple of other things in the pipeline for the next couple of weeks, but as thor mentioned, fixing this is high priority for us.
