Icon Compression Is Kinda Brutal
I noticed that some getsatisfaction employees seemed to be using png instead of jpeg, and boy does that fix the problem. But really, there's no reason high quality user icons should only go to the users who are so self obsessed that they're willing spend time reverse engineering this little trick (eg, yours truly). We should help everyone look nearly as free from compression artifacts on the internet as they do in the real world.

Inappropriate?it is an issue, we agree. i'll discuss with the team to see what improvements can be made. in the meantime, if you're reading this topic, png is totally the way to go. :)

Inappropriate?Jon,
We originally put the jpeg compression in place to lower the pressure on pages that had a grid of 50+ user avatars on them. Since we don't really have that anymore on the site, I see no problem with removing the compression.
I'll look at doing this work early next week, I've got a couple of things I need to get done between now and then.
I’m thankful
