Improve dashboard and abridge posts everywhere on the site
Looking at my dashboard, I see the entire Wall Street Journal article I posted as talk in Sprint. Please abridge long posts to only show, say, the first 80 - 90 words. If people want to read the post, they will click on it. If it doesn't interest them enough to click, why force the whole thing upon them in the dashboard or on the company page?
Of course, you'll need to worry about HTML tags and close any open tags like blockquote or bold or whatever. A "smart" system of abridging would be best. It should try to show whole paragraphs (e.g., if you decided to use 80 words max, and a given post has only four more words until the next paragraph, include those four words even if it pushes it over the "80" desired number).
Also, at least in the dashboard, you should show an abridged summary of the latest unread reply, not the original post. If it is showing in my dashboard, that means I posted to it and so I have been following the story. I know what the original post said, so tell me something I don't know. Perhaps this same thing (showing latest unread post) should be applied to the company pages too, but I am not sure. Maybe on company pages you should show both a summary of the original post followed by a summary of the latest unread reply?
This bring up another point: Does satisfaction keep track of what I've read? This would be a requirement if you were to show me the latest unread reply (because it is not necessary that latest unread reply == latest reply) ;-)

Inappropriate? Thanks for all the great feedback, Nick. The Dashboard is currently getting an overhaul so this is really useful. We've even got some of this planned already but I'll let our product design team speak more on that front.
I’m excited for our new & improved Dashboard

Inappropriate?we are working on a lot of what you've asked for, though we're doing it in a couple of stages. we're still a few weeks away from launching anything new on the dashboard (though we'll prob hit you up ahead of that to see what you think. :) definitely seeing last replies instead of just the topic title again would make things a whole lot more convenient, so it's high on our list.
as for keeping track of what you've read: no. well, not yet. this kind of functionality -- a la google reader -- is a fair amount of work and we've just got a bunch of other things we'd like to get done before then.
