Inconvenient new post notification email text
The more people who like this idea, the more it gets noticed.
The company implemented this idea.

Inappropriate?norbiq, that's a really good point. we're revisiting the layout of these email notifications again in a couple of weeks when we release our new topic page design into the wild, and we'll definitely take this into consideration and try to get it back in when we do that.

Inappropriate? We might even be able to fix this particular detail in the next day or so. Thanks for the input. Great help!
I’m happy

Inappropriate?+1
I was about to make the exact same suggestion regarding the "new reply" email notifications; it's good to see someone else wants it too.
( It's a bit tough to scroll through 196 replies just to find that one reply that's new. )
I’m in a good mood

Inappropriate?mdy: I think we've fixed this, but are you still having difficulty with it? Just want to check and make sure and get a user's perspective.

Inappropriate?Whoops! My bad!
After seeing your responses, I went back and took another look at the emails I've been getting, and it turns out it's there at the bottom of the email message! (D'oh!)
I'm embarrassed to admit that I've never noticed it. *sheepish grin* I've always just clicked on the thread title since that's what calls my attention the most.
Would you be open to the idea of making that link also available at the top of the message? Perhaps rewording the first line of the email to something like:
[username] has posted [a new reply] to [thread title]
where everything in square brackets is a link? You already have [username] and [thread title] so it's just adding one more. 8-)
I’m probably overdue for a visit to the optometrist!

Inappropriate?Oh, don't sweat it. I just wanted to get feedback, and you've provided it. Thanks!
We've experimented with different ways to display these e-mail messages. My big things is to make them as lightweight (short!) as possible. We've tried it the way you mention in the past, but we're now trying it in this manner. I'm not sure yet which is better.
Some of these replies can be quite lengthy, so putting it all in paragraph form worries me that they end up being dense. I guess the way we're doing it now is designed to be more browsing-oriented, particularly for company reps that might read a lot of these e-mails.
Thank you. I am going to see what others here think. Great help!

Inappropriate?I just looked at the email messages again and I think I know why I tend to overlook that link, and the other links below it.
I use Gmail with its conversation threading feature. That feature tends to hide or suppress lines that have appeared in earlier messages that belong to the same thread.
So the links at the bottom of the email are visible only the first time I receive an email notification about a topic. But all subsequent emails I receive do not display those links because they were also included in earlier emails.
Here's a screenshot that might illustrate better.

It never occurred to me to click the "show quoted text" link to display the full message because I assumed that Gmail was simply suppressing a standard email footer.

Inappropriate? This is great to know! Thank you. I am definitely going to have us consider this detail, too.
I’m grateful

Inappropriate?Oops, I remember considering this in my original designs by adding a unique string after the action links, but I never got around to testing an implementation to see if it actually fooled gmail.
I'll add this into a bug ticket system and see If I can't resolve it this weekend.
Thanks!
I’m thankful

this is one of the best points

Inappropriate? Can't ask for more than that. Thanks, Eric!
In the meantime, I'm okay with clicking "show quoted text" to display the full message to get to those links. 8-) -
Inappropriate? Thanks, Scott. Will be happy to post feedback here after the modification is deployed. 8-)
-
Inappropriate?Yay! Gmail now shows the links at the bottom of my GSFN emails. Looks like adding a little unique string at the bottom did the trick! *thumbs up*
Thanks for getting around to fixing this!
I’m thankful

In the grand scheme of things, it was very low priority, so no apologies needed! 8-) -
+1 Scott
