Keep search term / "search all" option / BBCode?
Hi there,
when I do search a product or topic or company, maybe I was wrong, when I used the "topic" standard option, as it doesn't seem to find company / product names.
So in this case, I have to switch in the left drop-down menu to product or company.
1. I don't understand why there isn't a classical "search all / the whole site" option, maybe even as standard option? This would save me a lot of time, because I have to change the standard setting almost every time, as as said, it doesn't find my product / company! Costs too much time!
2. Why does it cost too much time? Because the AJAX system seems to delete the search term every time. Why isn't it possible to keep the search time while switching to another option (topic/company/products/whole site) as a standard behaviour? I think, if this is technically possible, the "keep search term" should be a standard setting, which should be only changeable via your account settings.
3. I'm wondering, why I can only search through companies & products on the home page, but not through topics?? And how get to the search field (for topics) from there? Usability!!!
(E.g. maybe I want to to search about if BBCode is possible at GetSatisfaction...)
You have to think about, in this case YOUR company / product is in a special position, of course you're not "better" than the others, but on getsatisfaction.com, GetSatisfaction is also a little bit more important and that's fine. :)
4. Can one use BBCode here? (for "bold"/"italic"/"underline" etc. formatting) Or maybe XHTML? If it works please add a note here under the "1) This is a...." part.

Inappropriate?Hi Phillip,
Thank you for the feedback. I'll do my best to respond to your questions but may need to pull in someone from our product team for some of them.
First of all, we are currently working on our search so there will be changes and improvements. Someone else on our team can speak more specifically about this.
Yes, you're right that searching Topics does not also search for product or company names. Again, this will eventually be addressed.
You also asked about a universal search. Right now we do have a universal search for products and companies - you can be in the /dell area but do a search for MacBook Pro and find it. However, topics are company specific which is why there is no universal topic search that searches the whole site. And to find topics pertaining to Get Satisfaction itself you do have to be in the /satisfaction area just as you do for all other companies and organizations. Universal topic search will happen at some point but there are some pretty significant behind-the-scenes structure reasons why that's not possible just yet.
Interesting idea about preserving your search term even when switching the category you're searching. I'll be sure our developers see this.
You can use HTML in topics and replies. Here's a topic about that.
I’m hoping I've addressed most of your concerns

Inappropriate?Hi Amy,
thanks for your answer.
> "Universal topic search will happen at some point but there are some pretty significant behind-the-scenes structure reasons why that's not possible just yet."
That's what I assumed. :) OF COURSE this is a loot of data, if you (have to) do a "global search", but I'd like to see it become reality in the future nonetheless. :)
One thing I forgot! For a work around concerning certain AJAX limitations, you could build a Greasemonkey script, which you could link / offer somewhere here, so the search term could be kept more easily. Don't know the technical details, but that’s a solution that come to my minor-geek mind. ;-)
One thing you didn't address is the second point, I refer to above:
"Keep search terms". Do you understand my problem with that?
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?Hi Phillip,
I think I did address keeping search terms above. I said:
"Interesting idea about preserving your search term even when switching the category you're searching. I'll be sure our developers see this."
Did I misunderstand your meaning?
I’m clarifying

Sorry, I somehow accidentally overlooked that! Thanks! :)
