Inappropriate?I had an idea on this a while back, as sort of a minimal first step that posters can use to signify this. Basically, the tag the item with "open" while their issue hasn't been solved, and then remove it when it has.
This puts the sole decision on whether an issue is resolved or not on the topic poster.
Obviously not a good solution, but it may work while we are working on a more friendly solution. -
Inappropriate?I think this would def be a good idea. I just resolved one of my issues successfully in-part thanks to the replies I got here, and it would be nice to have some, for lack of a better word, closure.

Inappropriate? We're sooooo close to adding this, so stayed tuned. We are running down the finishing details on this right now. Soon, you'll be able to note if questions have been answered, and we'll put forward the best answer.

Inappropriate?+1 on the ability to at least move the resolved issues to a different area to keep focus on open issues.

Inappropriate? It's interesting to see an old topic like this surface again! We did indeed add ways for people to mark topics as resolved, but we haven't gone that extra step and added a "closed" functionality. We're debating it, so your +1 is in the mix. Thanks!
I’m glad this topic wasn't "closed"

Inappropriate?I think iankennedy's +1 has to do with the recent mybloglog problems which spawned four duplicates currently occupying all the front page :P
I’m pointy

Inappropriate?Yes - wondering if there's a way to merge related issues so they all roll up into one.
-
There's currently no way to do it but follow my link and vote up the idea if you want it ;) -
Inappropriate?the way that we do it on our site is to do a search intercept when people are posting topics, showing related topics via our search while they're entering in their new topic. there's also a version of this in the help center.
this does a really good job of keeping duplicate topics down when people enter things in via Get Satisfaction, but there isn't a version of it on the mybloglog topic entry. something to add, perhaps? you can grab the code in PHP from our Help Center app if that makes it easier.
another, potentially easier thing you might consider: putting the hottest (most active) topics right on the topic entry form, so that people see them and try them first if their topic is about something that happened recently.
