Vindication from the outside world! (sorry teammates, couldn't help it!)
That sort of functionality has existed in previous versions of the site, and it is on the short list to bring back soon. It worked really well with previous iterations on the site, but IIRC it felt "tacked on" after an important shift the product took.
Rather than have a poorly integrated version, we decided that it would be removed and included back in when it was a designed as first class citizen, and provided the level of usefulness that we think the public deserves.

Inappropriate?We definitely plan to bring back some more customer service specific functionality like this pretty soon. And we also plan to find smart ways to show the aggregation of that data to both the companies and the customers that use our site to communicate with each other.
