What's the difference between "this is a good point" and "this solves the problem"?

I notice that *some* threads, from months ago, now say "this is a good point" next to the star, even for replies from yesterday, while other threads have the "this solves the problem" by the star. What's up with that? Is it because one is a "question" thread and one is an "idea" thread? That seems inconsistent; "this solves the problem" is so, well, final and definitive, while "this is a good point" can logically be used multiple times to indicate, well, good points. Answering a question often involves clarifying the question, and "good points" can be made when pursuing the final answer. Just something to think about.

I'm guessing that "this solves the problem" and "this is a good point" both equate to "marked as useful" in my dashboard?

indifferent I’m amused that the "Get Satisfaction" product description now says "Beta Release"
Inappropriate?

First, the Get Satisfaction product has said Beta Release for a long time. I don't think this was changed recently.

Second, you're right: ideas have good points, questions have "this answers the question" and problems say "this solves the problem." As we evolve this site, we have noticed that these different types of conversations are indeed different, and creating exact, parallel language across each topic type doesn't work. It's constraining and doesn't take into account the way people seem to converse in these different kinds of conversation.

And, you're right: solved problems do seem definitive, and that's what we're shooting for. We want problems to feel solved, but we want ideas to have more room for ongoing conversation. We want questions to be answered as definitively as possible (just like problems), but we want discussions (the fourth topic type) to have virtually none of this weighting. So, it doesn't. As I say, making it all parallel would feel neat and clean, but it probably wouldn't reflect how people actually act in these different topic types.

But, of course, we won't be able to reflect everything people do. As I say, there is a lot of tiny nuance that we're trying to add to these different kinds of topics. But, in the simplest sense, they do equate to "marked as useful".
