Schmownce as hosted software/ A wordpress extension.
This is one thing that i've had in my brain for a while now and now that schmownce is here it seems like an apt time to bring this to the people.
It would be absolutely brilliant if schmownce could create downloadable, and installable, micro-blogging software that is open and free to use. I loved Pownce, and i like schmownce already just for the ability to post more than is available to you on twitter, but i'd love to be able to install a version of this onto my personal site.
The other idea i had was to create a wordpress plugin that allowed you to post quick items, notes and images to your wordpress posts timeline, without having to publish a full new post. Sort of "schmownce" formatted mini-posts. But ones that you could style with an icon so that people can tell that it's a quick link, message, event, or other.
Just something that's been mulling around my head for a while, make of it what you will.

Inappropriate?Hmm, interesting idea, and one we hadn't thought of, for sure. Schmownce is currently a Ruby on Rails app, and I think that RoR probably still has a ways to go before it will be a mass-installable medium, like Wordpress. There are certain hosting requirements and setup that would be difficult to support, I think.
Plugins, modules, desktop apps, and the like are probably more of a likelihood in the near future.

Inappropriate?Sorry, i didn't realise you were running on Ruby, i assumed PHP what with the refresh of the page after submitting stuff (hence suggesting wordpress).
Thanks for replying to my idea anyways, definitely something worth thinking about. Good luck with the new features guys, and can you hook us up with a 'featured schmowncers' page, because i haven't added any friends yet!
