Rare metadata transfer errors
There are, however, a few more transfer errors lingering, and I'd like to see if I can resolve these as well. I get two kinds. The first type of error reads: "-10006: iTunes got an error: Can’t set library playlist id 6795 of source id 40 to «class null»". The second type reads: "-2753: The variable theSong is not defined."
I can't seem to see any pattern to the first type of error, but the second type of error only seems to occur on iTunes videos, not songs. In fact, this error only occurred on 4 videos in total (TV shows, in particular), but I don't have very many videos on my iPod anyway (9 TV shows, 2 movies). The first type of error occurred on 60 of my songs. (For reference, I did a transfer of 3388 songs that are already in my library, so PodWorks is basically metadata transferring if necessary. Getting only 64 errors out of 3388 is an error rate of less than 2% which is excellent, but it'd be better if it were 0%. :) )
You can access all the related PodWorks Console error messages by going to http://homepage.mac.com/simx/podworks... . It's basically the same messages over and over again, but since it includes the song info, perhaps you can figure out if there's a pattern or not.
I'm happy to provide any more information or test out a beta version to help diagnose the problem. You're welcome to contact me (@simX) on Twitter, if you'd like.
The more people who report this problem, the more it gets noticed.
The company is aware of this problem.

Inappropriate?Oh, yeah, I forgot to add this tidbit: occasionally when I'm doing this, iTunes throws up a modal dialog that reads: "Il tentativo di copiare sul disco 'Macintosh HD' èallito. Non trovo la cartella richiesta." (This translates to: "The attempt to copy to the disk 'Macintosh HD' has failed. The requested folder cannot be found.") This dialog comes up maybe 3 or 4 times if I transfer a bunch of music all at once. It looks like these videos were once in my iTunes library, but they aren't now, and PodWorks is trying to transfer them to my library and failing.
I’m indifferent.

Inappropriate?Thank you for all of your detailed information on this--this actually gives me something to go on.

Inappropriate?Hmmm .. I'm getting the same error I believe, but it's not on 2% .. it's all of them right now. For each track I attempt to transfer, the error reads:
"-10006: iTunes got an error: Can't set library playlist id 75494 of source id 43 to << class"
Even as the track names change, the digits of the error remain the same.
A few oddities of my config/use:
- I have a laptop and an external drive, and am attempting to do a onetime transfer of songs w/metadata from laptop (iPod currently syncing to laptop) to external drive, via the ipod in disk mode. So I boot itunes holding option key, select external drive library to make sure itunes is pointing to the right location, boot PodWorks, select, hit selected to iTunes, and ... barf ... get the error ... no tracks moved successfully so far.
- going forward, I'm hoping to sync ipod to external drive (bigger library) and iPhone to LP ... as LP runs out of space, I would want to use PodWorks to transfer tunes from LP to External drive
I thought I was genius ... but PodWorks is failing me ... or I'm failing Podworks .. can't figure it out.
I’m confused and anxious

Inappropriate? Thanks for the extra information here. I'm going to try to have another go with these AppleScript problems in the next version. Unfortunately, they're extremely tricky to track down.

Inappropriate? While I don't understand the nature of this error message, I was getting it and found a work around.
I had several songs that became corrupted on my laptop (where I keep my main iTunes library). I tried to use PodWorks 2.9.3 to transfer them back to iTunes but generated this error message (-10006... as above) for each track. Deleting the songs from iTunes didn't resolve the issue.
I then loaded PodWorks to my iPod, transfered the songs to another iTunes on another machine, copied these files back to my laptop and then imported them back into iTunes. Now the songs are playing once again.
This resolved the issue for me. Hopefully it'll work for you as well and, perhaps provide some additional information to the nature of the original problem.
Take care,
Jeff
I’m happy
