Slow, slow transfer of tunes

First time user: I want to copy tunes from ipod to new itunes library (old one got corrupted). I connected ipod, Podworks recognized it and showed tune list. I selected "Send all to iTunes." Transfer started fine but has now slowed waaaaaayyyyyyyy down (one song every minutes or two). What's going on and what should I do?
