How are "live watchers" computed?
Are "live watchers" only on the folks on the scribblelive page, or does it count people viewing crossposted or iframes? So, let's say that our re:create live blog is crossposted to only count for people on the scribblelive.com site, or does it calculate those visitors, plus any live visitors on the crossposted or iframe pages?

While an event is live, it counts everybody on www.scribblelive.com, in the iframe embed, or crossposted (as long as it's not crossposted to Wordpress.com -- they block our Javascript).
Funny you should ask about metrics :) We just rolled out new metrics code tonight that uses http://whos.amung.us/ , so the numbers should be a whole lot more accurate from now on.
Thanks for asking!

Inappropriate?thanks, gang - your support is awesome. I only wish I'd liked the answer more - I was hoping it was ONLY scribblelive ... now, that it was on ALL the other sites ... I'm somewhat sad that we really didn't have THAT many people watching live, haha!
I’m worn out tired.

Inappropriate? If it makes you feel better, the stats up until 11pm EST tonight were probably way off ;) Remember too, that's how many are on there RIGHT NOW. The "re:create 2009, Nashville TN" event had over 400 unique visitors today.

Inappropriate?Jonathan, well yeah ... I do feel better! Btw - on many occasions, the twitter import quit working - trying to bring in #recreate - and after a while, it would just stop - and I'd logout, login, and redo it ... and it wouldn't load - just a computer issue for me?
-
Inappropriate?Unfortunately, it was probably Twitter search being down that caused the problem so we're kinda at their mercy there. I'll pay extra attention to it over the next 2 days and maybe I can code a workaround if I can see the exact problem.
But no need to logout/login to try to fix it. Worse-case, if it looks broken for a long period of time, you can try a reload to see if that helps. -
Inappropriate?Jonathan,
Yep - I think that's the issue - it's happening right now, and I decided to try and load the http://search.twitter.com url, and I got this message:
You have been rate limited. Enhance your calm.
I’m checking it out ...

Inappropriate?Ahhhh, I think I know the problem then. I'll investigate and try to get a fix in there (which will probably just be slowing the search down a bit). Thanks!

Inappropriate? Can you please do me a favor and copy/paste the results of this page from your browser? http://twitter.com/account/rate_limit...

Inappropriate?Great, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't using up your Twitter API limit. It's just a search limit.
I've contacted Twitter to find out what the rate limit is for searches, but for now I set it at 5 seconds, or when you hit ENTER while in the box.
