This just in: About 5,200 Personal Identity-brand V-neck sweaters with hood have been recalled because the recalled sweaters have a drawstring through the hood, posing a strangulation hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines (pdf) to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist by drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts.
The product is distributed by A & R Knitwear, of New York, N.Y. and is manufactured in Pakistan.
So far, no incidents or injuries have been reported.
The recalled sweaters have a V-neck, hood and kangaroo pocket. The sweaters are either pink with charcoal stripes or blue with white stripes. They were sold in the following girls’ sizes: small, medium, large, and extra large.
Personal Identity-brand V-neck sweaters with hood were sold in Sears stores nationwide during September 2007 for about $34.
If you are affected, you should immediately remove the drawstring to eliminate the hazard.
