iCal server issues

I have iCal hosted on an OS X server and Today quits when adding a task unless iCal is running on my local machine. I have 2 calendars on my local machine and can add tasks to those calendars even if iCal is not running locally. If I add a task to a calendar hosted on the server, Today crashes unless iCal is running on my local machine.

I’m frustrated
