Need a Lite version of Second Life
When is Linden Labs going to create a 'lite' version of Second Life for users on laptops who want to connect on the road?

Inappropriate?I use Second Life on a laptop exclusively, and on a (decent) wireless Internet connection. I've basically followed all the steps in the Guide to Improving Mac Performance... except my sliders and settings are pushed all the way toward, you know, the bottom of the barrel.

Inappropriate?i recommend checking out the alternative clients being produced by residents. i run a fairly low level laptop (second life spec wise) and the regular sl clients are murder on this thing. the alternative browsers i have found have been a lot smoother running on my system.
i am not sure what OS you are using but i am using vista on my laptop and these are the alternative browsers i have had luck with:
http://kirstenleecinquetti.blogspot.com/ this user has created one of the best alternative browsers to date! my laptop runs very well with this and it has some extra added features that are not included in the real sl client.
http://imprudenceviewer.org/ this is another great choice though it sadly does not support sound of any kind, they are hoping to include that in the future. the client works great on my laptop as well though some have complained about textures loading slowly.
if you want something even lighter perhaps you should look into a text only based browser. there is a very nice one called metabolt which is available here: http://www.metabolt.net/ that gives you most of the functionality of sl without the visual part.
hope this helps
I’m confident
