Unable to upgrade or uninstall twhirl! Please help!

I am unable to upgrade from 0.81 to 0.82 or 0.83, nor can I uninstall twhirl.

I get the following message when I try to upgrade:

    "Sorry. an error has occurred.

An error occurred while updating the application. Try updating it again. If the problem persists, contact the application author."

And if I try to uninstall Twhirl (by selecting more options and then clicking uninstall), I get the same message, except everywhere the above message says "updating" it says "uninstalling" instead.

    Twhirl log-in = Authentication Failed! (Status:304) Last reply on July 03, 2008 03:34.

I am trying to log in to Twhirl (as I often do), but today it is telling me that it cannot log in (authentication failed) with that name or password, followed by error number 304. I have not changed any settings and I am able to log in to twitter's website and update my status. I am using Mac OS 10.4.11. Any ideas?

I cannot connect Last reply on July 02, 2008 13:20.

I cannot even seem to connect to my Twitter account through Twirl. I click connect and nothing happens. I can logon via the Web, though.

Avatars not displaying in Twhirl Last reply on June 30, 2008 11:53.

My installation of Twhirl (0.8.2) on Windows XP is randomly not showing users' avatars/images for some reason. It shows some but not others.

Is this a known issue? How can I clear my cache, would this fix the issue? Would uninstalling and reinstalling Twhirl fix this, do you know?

    Thanks

twhirl does need Admin-rights to connect to a newly added user - and it looses the tweets on a restart

Twhirl doesn't give itself write access. I just installed AIR and Twhirl. As always I use a "sudo"-like script for that. This script gives Admin-privileges to my non-Admin account for this installation. This way I installed both programs (twhirl u.0.8.2). (Btw. I don't know why I had to allow twhirl hdd-write and internet access. I sure understand the internet thing, but isn't there maybe some sandbox like feature in AIR that allows me to restrict hdd-access to writing data via some Dom-Data-like interface? I felt uncomfortable having to allow the program more rights than it needs. anyway, .. maybe that's not supported in AIR. so, back to my problem.)

I then had twhirl installed and I started it without Admin-rights just as every other program. I got a dialog to choose my username. I did. I tried to hit connect. nothing happened. I hit "delete passwort". Computer thought for a second and then nothing happened. Then I deleted the account. That worked. Then I was able to create it again. But I still couldn't connect. No reaction on hitting "connect".

Then I started twhirl.exe with Admin-rights and I got a dialog prompting me for a password. I put it in. twhirl loaded all my tweets and I could use it properly.

Then I closed twirl and started it without Admin-rights. I was still logged in. And twhirl said, it'll now load current tweets. But it didn't. And it didn't display any messages in the middle of the twhirl-window. And it said "0 total (0 replies, 0 .. 0..)"

However: Starting with Admin-rights again, didn't help either. No tweets were shown, but I got a message that there was a problem with loading the direct messages. But twhirl said it did load all tweets and all replies and that I had used 6/70 reqs. But still I had a total of 0 tweets displayed in twhirl.

So I deleted my account in twhirl and added it again. Still with admin rights. That worked and I got all my tweets in twirl again.

Then I started it again with Admin-rights and all my tweets were lost again. So the problem seems independent from whether I have write access to the directory.

Just as a note: The sudo command I use can be found here http://www.heise.de/ct/ftp/05/23/112/ as MachMichAdmin (the site is German)

    FriendFeed reply to Twitter

Might be something I'm missing here, but is it possible to comment on a Twitter post in the FriendFeed window and do the equivalent of checking the 'reply to Twitter' box on the normal FriendFeed interface, resulting in the comment going both to FriendFeed and as an @ reply in Twitter.

Why wont Twhirl retrieve new updates? Last reply on June 25, 2008 16:25.

Why wont Twhirl retrieve new updates? I don't have a timeout or anything, it just says no updates. But when I go to Twitter.com, it shows many updates some older than half an hour! Later Twhirl will download like 10 updates at a shot. (JUST THIS SECOND it loaded new tweets from an hour ago) There doesnt seem to be a point to Twitter if its just so annoying.

    A troubled twitter = a troubled Twhirl Last reply on June 23, 2008 01:29.

I'm sure most of you already know this, but I just wanted to point out that Twhirl's twitter integration is only as good as Twitter's API service. In other words, if Twitter is having issues, then Twhirl will have issues connecting to Twitter.

(Connection to other services, like FriendFeed, should not be affected.)

A good place to read more about twitter's status is status.twitter.com.

Twittered Seesmic video links don't play. Last reply on June 20, 2008 00:10.

Seesmic links posted to twitter don't play anymore more for me, the page does come up, the video box just doesn't play.

If I take the video hash (ie: the QGHvhBmrST part of http://seesmic.com/videos/QGHvhBmrST) I can use that on other seesmic urls just fine, or go into the full seesmic site and find the video there and play it. It was working a couple of weeks back I'm sure, just doesn't now.

Right to Left (Hebrew) Order of Words Wrong

Right to left twits (at least in Hebrew) have a reverse order of words.

    For instance, instead of:
    טוויטר שוב נפל
    You will see:
    נפל שוב טוויטר

Can't enter my Twitter login Last reply on June 03, 2008 23:06.

When I enter my Twitter login into Seesmic and submit the form, I see the "in progress" icon, but nothing seems to happen. I'm not sure if this is a Twitter API problem or a Seesmic problem.

twitter privacy leads to pointless tweets from seismic. Last reply on May 29, 2008 19:12.

if a user has tweets protected [to only be shared with followers] then seesmic ignores this and sends tweets that say "I'm only giving updates to friends. Add me."

this should be handled more gracefully. either by interrogating twitter to ensure their tweets are public or by notifying folks of this in seesmic at the twitter credentials page.

No tweets (but replies) received in last two hours Last reply on May 25, 2008 18:57.

Twhirl has not received the tweets that have been posted in the last two hours (approximate,) though it did correctly receive a reply to me. I don't know if time is the relevant factor, or if there is something unique about the two people I follow who've twittered in that time that is the problem.

The two users whose tweets Twhirl hasn't received:
    https://twitter.com/Kimota
    https://twitter.com/d_fienberg

    Me:
