AIR update fuzzing Twhirl?
I received an AIR update today and it seems to have messed Twhirl up a bit. Anyone else seeing this? Specifically, I lost all previous tweets from before the time of update. [disclosure: I work for Adobe and would like to make sure this all works]

Hi all,
not sure if two things are confused here. Since version 0.8.2, twhirl does not show "old" messages it had already received in a previous session. This avoids popping up old messages as "new" when you start it the next time, and has been requested by many users.
If you don't like this behaviour, you can of course disable it, so that twhirl will show the latest 20 tweets from your friends, replies and direct messages on startup, no matter if it showed them before. Just open the configuration and disable "hide old messages from previous sessions".
But this should not affect really "new" messages coming in and being displayed. If twhirl does not update anymore at all after upgrading AIR to 1.1, there might be a problem with the update we need to look for.

Inappropriate?I have had the same problem tonight. no updates in twhirl since i upgraded air tonight.
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?Me too. Friendfeed support seems fine but Twitter features are all messed up. Most of the time my window stays blank.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?same here. Window stays blank, save for my own tweets; that, too, disappears when i close and reopen twhirl. AIR 1.1 is to blame, it seems. This is on 0.8.2, of course.
I’m waiting to see what happens
-
Inappropriate?same here; FriendFeed fine; receiving tweets, but all history lost. Twitterific can see everything. This diminishes the utility of twhirl as twitter app.
OK; I'm done waiting. Dumping twhirl and returning to twitterrific.
I’m waiting for a repair or work around.
-
Inappropriate?same thing. Twhirl stopped displaying old tweets immediately after Air update.

Inappropriate?Actually, my experience with 0.8.2 does not match your claim. So maybe the box was checked and I unchecked it? Not likely, I rarely look at config.
Now I have the previous tweets, but not the direct msgs and replies. So, for me, it's "close ... but no cigar."
I'm sorry I don't have screen snaps of the tweets I could see this AM and now.
-Bill
I’m discouraged by the erratic behavior.
-
Inappropriate?hey guess what. history of directs and replies appeared in twhirl list. Now I'm back to where I think I want to be. And if you can parse that msg me.
Thanks Marco et al.
I’m relieved.
-
Inappropriate?your answer is not the solution to my problem. please try again. The problem is twhirl does not receive updates in a timely manner since the air update. it takes hours before the new tweets are received in twhirl.

Inappropriate?@chris23-
If you work for Adobe, can you please pass along the suggestion to fix AIR so that it doesn't open new browser windows (instead of tabs in the current window) every time you click on a link in an AIR app?
Thanks! -
I couldn't agree more. This pisses me off everytime I try to click a link in Twhirl. Now I just get a lovely "you can't have more than one instance of FF open at a time" error. I have to copy & paste to open any link from Twhirl now. -
Pam, did you get a response to this error? I've been searching everywhere for reference to the problem. Same thing - I have to copy and paste any link into FF because tells me same msg about only allowed one instance of FF open -
Inappropriate? No. We're not saying your problem is imaginary. It just looks like a different issue from the one chris23 reported. Can you tell us what OS/version you are running; and what account name(s) you have setup in twhirl?
I’m happy to track this down
-
OK Thomas sorry for the slow reply (out of town) my problem happens on both windows xp & OS X 10.4.11. The version of twirl is 0.8.2 on both OS's. and the version of air 1.1.0.5790. I would say there is atleast a 20 mins delay before a tweet apears in twirl and that is with hitting the refreash button. -
And, under the 'General' tab under the configuration for your account, is "hide messages from previous sessions" checked? -
no -
Inappropriate?I upgraded a couple of days ago but probably didn't restart twhirl until this afternoon. Now all previous tweets are gone. Tried unchecking the box and still have the issue, so must be something else. I'm running Windows XP Home Edition 2002 with SP2.
I’m confused
-
after unchecking the box, did you save and restart twhirl? -
Inappropriate? This morning, I installed the latest AIR Update on my Mac OS 10.4 platform. I'm running twhirl 0.8.2.
Since that time I have received no tweets, not even ones that I posted myself. The panel that ordinarily displays tweets is completely blank.
I can see that my outgoing tweets have been received by Twitter by accessing the Twitter web page; the problem is strictly on inbound.
Search works. Refresh fails. Attempts to display only replies or direct messages fails.
"Health" is shown at 100%; 17/50 API calls used.
As I was typing this, from the corner of my eye I saw a quick display of some previous replies -- and then they vanished. I have to wonder if AIR doesn't fail, but does introduce some hideous delay?
Please contact me directly if you need further information, e.g., system configuration information. -
Inappropriate?Further odd behavior: the display panel remains blank, but I do receive popup notifications of tweets.
-
Inappropriate? This problem now seems to have somehow healed itself... very odd behavior. I begin to wonder if the real problem was that previous versions of AIR did not honor the "do not display previous tweets" checkbox.
-
so strange... I have not been able to reproduce this error while the "hide messages from previous sessions" box was unchecked. But we'll keep our eyes open for it. -
Inappropriate?Same thing happening to me. AIR did the upgrade to 1.1 this morning, and asked me to close twhirl (0.8.2) to do so, which I did. After AIR install complete, I ran twhirl again. It opened fine, but with no new tweets shown in twhirl from my last login (which was almost 15 hours ago - login to twitter via web confirms there are dozens of new tweets).
Have toggled "Hide messages from previous sessions" a couple of times, but it's still not picking up new tweets from friends - confirmed via web that there are, in fact, new tweets. At some point, twhirl popped up all my old dm's: not sure why.
Twhirl has shown my own new tweet, but still none from others. Have shut down twhirl and re-started a couple of times.
Have hit refresh on twhirl a couple of times, still no tweets.
OS: Win XP
I’m frustrated
-
All of a sudden it might be working. I hit the refresh button again and all new tweets since the last twhirl restart have appeared. -
Nope. It seemed to be a one-time burst of tweet updates. Twhirl's now gone back to having no new tweets. Hmmh. -
...aaaand it's updated again. Twhirl is receiving and displaying tweets, but with an approximate 20 minute delay beyond the setting for checking. -
And, finally, it now seems to be receiving and updating with tweets as normal, before the AIR update. -
