Cannot record a video on Seesmic anymore
Hi there,
I have a Dell monitor with an integrated webcam. When I signed up to Seesmic about three weeks ago I was able to record a video with it. I just tried to do it again and all I see are two drop-down lists in the main video preview pane. The left-hand drop-down only has one option: "Live! Cam Virtual" and the right one defaults to "Monitor Integrated webcam". My webcam is detected and activates as it should. At the same time my webcam software opens the Live! Cam Virtual software window and my integrated webcam control window.
Here is the problem, not matter what options I select in these two drop-downs I cannot record a video. I click the little red button "Start Recording" and nothing happens - all I see are two drop-downs, neither of which tells me what they are actually for...
Thanks and regards
David

Inappropriate? The "Live cam virtual" leads me to believe you might have installed some other software that acts as a 3rd party go-between. I've used programs like that in the past.. it would require you to have /that/ program running at in order to use it as a proxy for the camera.
Is that the case? -
Inappropriate? The Live Cam Virtual software came bundled with the monitor and was automatically installed along with everything else that came with it. This software does actually launch when I go to the Record video section on Seesmic and as mentioned previously the camera is also activated. It seems, however, that Seesmic cannot read the camera's stream via this software (or something along those lines). If I shut this software down, then the camera powers down and I cannot get it to turn on again without refreshing the entire Seesmic page, which takes me back to the original issue.
The problem seems to be that the Seesmic player detects this software and launches it rather than just launching the webcam with the basic controls. Skype for example works fine with this webcam and does not launch the "proxy" program when I want to have a video conversation. I don't understand why Seesmic launches the proxy software when other chat programs don't.
Also, like I mentioned before, the interface is not very helpful. What is the difference between the left-hand drop-down and the right-hand drop-down lists?
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?I have exactly the same problem. I believe the bug should be on seesmic that you can "unselect" a default and remove it from a list. I think you can remove a webcam on skype or a virtual webcam so that it doesn't hang seesmic trying to translate a "virtual" image. This problem is actually even more difficult in a "chat" window or embedded video of which I would like to reply to via video.
This is the video I would like to reply to:

and for me, it is only getting my audio recording, probably because seesmic has activated the stupid virtual webcam.
I guess a draconian measure would be to remove and unistall this virtual webcam software with all of it's avatars. I think I clicked a setting to activate it and I wish I could find how to unactivate it.
I’m bummed
