Corrupt install, can't uninstall/remove now
I can't uninstall Twhirl, or reinstall, or delete the directory in "Program Files" under Windows Vista.
I had a problem with a corrupt video codec, I changed user accounts on my computer (from xxdesmus to the admin account) ... I then went to run Twhirl and it wouldn't load. So I tried to uninstall which did nothing when I double clicked the entry in Add/Remove Programs. So I then tried to re-install the app which told me the install was corrupt. I then tried to manually delete the folder in "Program Files", but it told me that I didn't have permission to do so (even though I was logged in at the Admin). I also managed to delete the config files located in the AppData folder.

Copying configuration (AppData folder) from one install to another generally isn't a good idea for any application. But good to know it is working again for you!
To get the twhirl window back on screen, right-click on twhirl's sys tray icon and select "Reset windows".

You can select the installation destination when you first install an AIR application. Updates will use the previously selected location.
To install twhirl to another folder, you'll have to uninstall it first.

On Vista, even the Administrator account needs to lift privileges if UAC is active. If this does not work, you have more serious problems vis Vista than with twhirl :-)
The twhirl installer package you can download from twhirl.org is definitely working, it has been used by thousands of users.
Whatever you did with your accounts on your PC, you must have somehow damaged your AIR or twhirl setup. Sorry I cannot help you from here :-(

On Vista with active UAC (User Account Control), you need to "lift" yourself to administrativ privileges to do some operations. (Un-)Installing software, changing files in protected folders (like "Program FIles") will usually prompt you to authorize the action even if you are logged in as Administrator.
Please consult Windows Help for details about UAC.
If you want to purge all configuration data twhirl has saved, delete the "accounts.xml" file and also all files called "PrivateEncryptedData*" in a twhirl's folder under "Adobe\AIR\ELS" in AppData.
Hope this helps!

Inappropriate?Hi Mak,
I was logged in as the super Administrator (the highest privileges on the computer) and I still wasn't able to delete the "Program Files" folder. I deleted the Twhirl folder located in AppData\Adobe\AIR\ELS ...still no luck.
When I try to run the Twhirl installer (downloaded from your site) it fails and gives me this message:
"The application could not be installed because the AIR file is damaged. Try obtaining a new AIR file from the application author."
Any other suggestions? -

Inappropriate? Is there any way to manually select the destination to install Twhirl? When I start the installer it doesn't even get to the point where it prompts me for the install location. It fails before that point.
I wonder if the problem lies with Adobe AIR? ...I'll drop uninstalling and reinstalling AIR now. -

Inappropriate?Ok, I got it to run again ...I copied the AppData folder for Twhirl from a working install (on my laptop), and the Program Files directory ...now it loads, but the problem is that the resolution on my laptop is WAY higher than my desktop, and I can't get at the resize grip thing in the bottom right corner. Any ideas perhaps?
Thank you for all your help, I appreciate it. -

Inappropriate?Gotcha. All set now. I know copying the config folder is generally not a good idea, but I was kinda desperate.
Twhirl is just so much better than Snitter at this point. :)
