Make Hashtag links configurable
The link for the hashtags in twhirl doesn't work any more because hashtags.org has stopt working since August 5th.
See the blog post: http://downtowncartel.com/come-on-twi...
I suggest to link to http://twemes.com/ or http://search.twitter.com/

in 0.9 hashtags are linked to search.twitter.com by default. hashtags.org are back up and running and have proposed some new interesting solutions.

How hard can this be?!?! It's been four months already since this feature became broken.
I’m disappointed

If you've updated to twhirl v0.9 you'll notice that hashtag links now resolve to search.twitter.com. :) -
Inappropriate? Thanks for the suggestion, I do agree that it's a better option. Encouraging others to click on "I like this idea" will help us gage priority. Thanks!

Inappropriate?Sad that HashTags is down ... #tags are great search terms, kinda like semantic markup.
I noticed that http://terraminds.com/twitter/ gives no joy ... a shake-out in TwitterVille!
TwitScoop's graph output is neat, but the Get doesn't allow much flexibility.
I just went through http://twitter.pbwiki.com/Hashtags and couldn't find anybody to take up the slack ... search.twitter.com to win by acclamation?
I’m disappointed
-
Inappropriate?I second making the click go to search.twitter.com
-
Inappropriate?Love it - should be search.twitter.com
-
Inappropriate?I'll third search.twitter.com

Inappropriate?Hashtags has never worked very well when it has worked. Please give us a choice between Twemes and Twitter seach. Thanks!

Inappropriate?I definitely vote that it goes to search.twitter.com and performing an automatic search on the #hashtag .
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate?I agree. Even though you can still search hashtags with search.twitter, it would be nice if there was a more formalized way to do this ie. a new hashtags.
-
Inappropriate? The best thing is to make the destination configurable, not to implement another static URL
I’m excited

Inappropriate?I'm all for changing the link to search.twitter.com, or making it configurable. Think OpenSearch ;)
-
It would be possible to give a few options, but currently, the way the various sites would return the results is not standard, so a different parser for each service would have to be manually created. So, it is less likely we can make it configurable... but we have definitely heard your pleas for search.twitter.com -

HI Eric, I appreciate your frustration, and I *am* sorry that our release schedule has disappointed you. We are working on a new version, and I know this is on the radar for that release. -
Thanks Thomas. I appreciate the acknowledgment (even if you misspelled my name :-). -
GAH! Sorry Erik. =( -
It's now 2009 and still no progress on this issue. Twhirl release schedule is beginning to resemble that of Microsoft Office. Is Twhirl really not that important to Seesmic anymore? -
Inappropriate? How about just looking at one of the other services that are similar to Hashtag.org and figuring out which 1 or 2 are the most reliable and go with them. Maybe make the code easy to switch out if need be. For instance, if one of them disappears off the internet all of a sudden.
I’m undecided
-
this is why i think search.twitter.com is really the winner since it would likely only go away if twitter itself went away, also, for better or worse, non-hashtagged keywords also are included in results -
Inappropriate?just discovered this issue after disappointment with Tweetdecks handling of buttons, which you do better, but fyi they DO link to search.twitter.com, which everyone in my network uses to follow hashtags, not the 503ing hashtags.org, i am about to retweet that you have been ignoring this request, but thanks so much for this tool, even if it is closed.
-
Inappropriate?Another reason hashtags.org is, shall we say, "not the best choice" for default hashtag links (in case we needed something beyond the 503ing):
It doesn't track everyone's tweets, only the subset that are following @hashtags. Personally, when I am curious about a hashtag, I want to see *everyone's* tweets with that tag!
I truly feel that this is the *only* thing that detracts from the twhirl experience, for me. If it was fixed, I wouldn't have to keep flirting with other twitter clients!
Please, please please tell us that this is coming soon, and then pretty please with a cherry on top, make it happen?
I’m confident that asking nicely will help! Won't it?
-
Inappropriate?I would really like search.twitter.com to be invoked when I click on a hashtag in twhirl. Much nicer UI and more complete than just those people following @hashtags.

Thank you! Much appreciated, although it looks like this is hardcoded. I can't find a setting that provides the search string format, similar to how you provide the retweet format. That would have been even better! -
well, there are different api's for different services... so it's not just a matter of changing the search string, but rather rewriting the service to call from different apis with different limitations/features and/or different response formats that would have to be handled differently to give you the information. So, unfortunately not a simple change. So, other services could be added, but not as simply as the retweet format. -
You could easily do it the way Firefox enables you to define new search engines. Allow the user to specify an URL with placeholders, like http://search.twitter.com/search?q=%s or http://hashtags.org/tag/%s/
