add "get next 20" at the bottom of a timeline
Twhirl only downloads the 20 latest tweets in my timeline. If I have not opened my computer for a few hours I can have many more unread tweets in my timeline. Twhril then donload only the 20 latest, thereby creating a "hole" in my timeline in twirl. If I want to catch up on previous tweets I have to go back to twitter.
Why not make twhirl download all tweets since the last one it had downloaded previously?

Inappropriate?Hi Caspar,
Since Twhirl utilizes the Twitter API, and tries to stay light (by not maintaining more "state' information than necessary) the exact feature you are requesting is very unlikely to be implemented. However, it would be possible to add a "get next 20" link to the bottom of a timeline so that you could continue to load earlier messages in a reasonable format.
For people who would have hundreds if not thousands of 'unread' tweets each time they open twhirl, it wouldn't be practical (or likely) for them to need all those tweets. But for people who would only have up to 100 more unread tweets, it wouldn't be to time consuming (or API request consuming) to back up a screen or two.
How does this sound to you? Would that accomplish what you are looking for?
I’m always happy to try and improve the product =)

How about making the number of automatically fetched tweets configurable (capped by 100, for example), and then implement the pagination (so that when my limit is 50, I can load another 50 with one click like you describe)?
And well, I agree with staying light, but for example 1000 tweets take at most 500kB, while AIR framework + 1 app is much larger than that, so let's put things into context... -
Inappropriate?Thomas,
Sounds perfect. This would work for me. I normally have some 50 tweets at the most to catch up with before the last 20.
