I Don't WANT My Old Private Twhirl Messages!
How the heck do I get rid of old private and/or direct tweets in my Twhirl window?! (Running 0.8.4 on Mac 10.5.4)

Inappropriate?Go to the Directs section (click the envelope icon, you know :-) and then click the trash can in the lower right corner, next to the refresh icon. That should clear the old direct messages while still leaving regular tweets and replies.
I’m confident that I've answered the question

Inappropriate?that works... temporarily! but then if I quit Twhirl, then relaunch it... the old DM's are back! I've tried reinstalling, but still the old DM's come back after a Twhirl relaunch.... help
I’m confused
-
That's because Twitter has a feed of your last 10 or so DM's - when you open twhirl it automatically asks twitter for the last 10 DM's to make sure that the list it has is fresh (maybe you've not used Twhirls for a while, so it would be a different 10 to the 10 you had when you closed). -
Inappropriate?Oh, they do, don't they? Nuts.
I'd suggest the "...old messages..." checkbox on the Notify tab of the settings, but that doesn't seem to do anything. Hmm...
I’m a little annoyed that I was wrong
-
Inappropriate?hee. well you weren't so much WRONG.... just partially right :)
I think maybe there isn't a way around this issue...without removing the @ function entirely, which isn't really an option...
I’m amused

Inappropriate?I also find this frustrating. I am running the latest version of Twhirl (0.8.7) on Win XP (SP3), and every time I start Twirl around 20 of my old, direct messages and 20 of my replies appear at the bottom of the feed (@ 40 total).
I’m annoyed, but all right with it if this is some kind of "undocumented" feature (and if there is an actual reason for it).

That's because Twhirl always gets the last 10-20 tweets, directs, etc from Twitter API so that you have some tweets already in the panel. They will always be the most recent ones, however.
