Limit Exceeded issue...
I am unable to see the tweets in twhirl. Whenever I start it up I get a limit exceeded paused 5 minutes error and it never goes away.

If you encounter this problem at the moment, it could be due to the temporarily reduced API limit Twitter enforces after their technical problems and outages last week. They have decreased the maximum number of requests allowed per 60 minutes from 70 to 30. First, try to adjust your settings in twhirl, I'd recommend to use not more than 20 req/hour for now.
We have no information when Twitter will return "back to normal" and set the limit back to 70, sorry.
If you have decreased your API usage in twhirl, and you are absolutely sure that no other applications, websites or else accesses your twitter account, but still see the limit exceeded message, please contact Twitter directly so that they can check your account. There have been reports in the past that some users were still blocked, even when they did not use the API over the limit. In this case, we can do nothing for you, as twhirl depends on the responses it gets from the API.
I’m hoping twitter will return to normal soon

Inappropriate? This is often caused by other applications/sites you've signed up for making requests, i.e. the Facebook twitter application. It's a Twitter limitation/issue, not Twhirl.
-
Inappropriate?Moose,
thanks for your report. Twitter API allows a maximum number of 70 requests per hour per account, for all clients together. If your account exceeds that number, you will be locked out for the rest of the 60 minute cycle.
Please also see http://blog.twhirl.org/2008/04/10/lim... for more information about the API limit. -
Inappropriate? The same problem just started for me. I've disabled all the twitter stuff in Facebook (except Twitter Sync) and I closed the Friendfeed twhirl window. Also changed my Twitter password as someone suggested that. Now waiting to see if Twhirl wakes up again. (Twitter name: pfhyper)

Problem is resolved. I shut off clients and changed my password. -
Inappropriate?I've been having the same problem, and I don't use any other twitter client. I either use twhirl or twitterific ( the latter only when twhirl gives me this error ), i dont have a twitter plugin in face book or anywhere else, which is why i'm confused as to why every time i try to launch twhirl it tells me my limit is exceeded, but if I shut twhirl down and launch twitterific everything is fine.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?@kiyanwang hmm, could you please check for a file called "twhirl.log" on your computer, and maybe send it to me at marco@twhirl.org? I will look into it and see if it helps to solve your problem.
It should be located in /Users/<username>/Library/Preferences//de.makesoft.twhirl.0EA062BC275E7ED1E6EC3762EFFD73C7158ADF33.1/Local Store
Thanks!</username> -
Inappropriate? As an update to this question, we have analyzed the logfile and it clearly shows that twitter responded with limit exceeded. We have forwarded the log to twitter for them to check what was happening. If / when we receive an answer, we will let you know. Thanks!
-
Inappropriate?I get this problem when I use my mobile phone to log into Twitter and tweet from there. When I get back to my Mac, Twhirl won't get tweets anymore. Just my hat in the ring for this one. I hope Twitter finds a fix soon.
I’m anxious

Inappropriate?FWIW I have (had, for now) Twhirl loaded on my work laptop and home PC. I get this error on both computers. The problem is not hardware related. I've checked my Twitterfeed and it's posting once every three hours. I don't have any other auto feeds to Twitter.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Well at least it's being worked on... I dunno if this helps but I don't have anything autopolling from twitter... I just check in the website from work and twhirl from home...
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?I don't have FB integration. I do use the mobile interface from time to time but not enough to cause this. This just started happening 2 days ago. I haven't been able to use Twhirl for 2 days straight now.
I’m frustrated

actually this blog post helps think this though a bit. http://blog.twhirl.org/2008/04/10/limit-exceeded-what-does-it-mean/ now i realize that i use Flock and Brightkite (freq). maybe that is to blame. also, i changed my password over the weekend and that's when the trouble seemed to start oddly enough. -
Inappropriate?i just installed it; 5 mins I get the same error message. twitter might officially be dying... i've used several client. all bad. bugger...

Inappropriate?Twitter is trying to update parts of their system - kind of like changing the tires on a car while your still driving it.
So while they do that they have disabled whole chunks of features and dropped the request limit to 30. -
Inappropriate?I still have this problem when I check with the Web only and have reset the request limit to 10. I have no services checking Twitter besides twhirl and the Web page.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I have this problem too. I changed my request limit to 30 and still no go. The "paused for 5 minutes" is forever. I haven't been able to use Twhirl for several days now. I don't have anything polling twitter, including FB. In fact, most of the time I have Twhirl closed.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?reduced my request limit, shut down all other sites that could be checking with it, still no love. tempted to start checking other api's to see if the problem exists across the board..
I’m seething

Inappropriate?I am having the same problem. I have changed my password to make sure requests were not made by any other application. I am still unable (been 2 weeks now) to login to Twitter using hahlo, twhirl or twitteriffic.

Inappropriate?I had never experienced this problem until I enabled the built in text messaging feature for twitter over the weekend, on my personal account. This morning when I opened twhirl it wouldn't download any tweets. After I disabled the text messages and restarted twhirl the tweets started downloading again (after a 20-min lag).
My other (organizational) account continued to function correctly the entire time. It does not have the text messaging option enabled.
It seems strange that the SMS message count would count towards your API limit though. Anyone else?
I’m unsure

Inappropriate?MacBook Pro, running Twhirl, limit exceeded daily, often first thing in the morning. Followed all the steps 1) change password - did not help, 2) turn off FreiendFeed - nope, 3) reboot Mac - looked like it, but noooo, limit exceeded again. Finally, turned off Twitter application in FaceBook - Success! So, I'm back in action with Twhirl, and frankly I don't miss FaceBook at all anyway.
It wasn't Twitter or Twhirl after all.
I’m feeling triumphant
-
Inappropriate?Dang, limit exceeded again.
Now I'm really stumped. Wish I could look at a log of my Twitter updates and requests to the API using my credentials.
Update - Twitter is showing the whale. Turning FaceBook off may still be a valid solution, just can't validate it at the moment.
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?Solved, finally. I turned off two plugins on my blog, which runs WordPress, and all is good.
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?I am still having this issue. I have my requests set to 40 per hour. I will decrease to 20 and see if it works. This is getting really annoying.

Inappropriate?Hi everyone, the just released version 0.8.3 fixes issues with the auto throttling twhirl can perform for your API usage.
But as the limit is as low as 20 at the moment, it's still likely that you will run into limit exceeded problems, because of other clients / apps accessing your account. We can only hope for twitter to raise the limit soon, so the problem will be less significant.
Sorry, unfortunately we cannot do more then trying to keep twhirl's API usage below the limit.
