Twirl - I'm getting notifications for old messages, but I don't want them.

Whenever I start up twirl, I always get a whole screenful of old messages, even though I have the option "no notifications for old messages on start" checked for all my services. How do I make twirl stop filling the screen with old notifications every time I start up?
