Inappropriate?Adobe Air is in a folder called "Common Files" on your computer.
Go to: My Computer > C: drive > Program Files > Common Files >
Adobe Air > Versions > 1.0 > Template - Windows Installer Package
Adobe Air doesn't have an uninstaller, so you will need to reinstall it instead.
If that doesn't work, then here is the author: http://www.adobe.com/products/air/
I’m happy

Thanks for the reply, but that's not my issue. AIR is installed just fine. I can't install Twhirl.
When trying to install Twhirl I get the following error "The application could not be installed because the AIR file is damaged. Try obtaining a new AIR file from the application author."
AIR is working just fine. Able to install and run other AIR apps without issue. Need help with how to re-install Twhirl, not AIR.
Any ideas? -
Inappropriate?Go to: "Add or Remove Programs" in your "Control Panel" of your computer,
and look for Twhirl. Un-install Twhirl, and re-install it here: http://twhirl.org/project/twhirl
It's a good idea to go to your "Program Files" (after un-installing) and make sure Twhirl is deleted from there also. This isn't absolutely necessary, but it is recommended.
I’m happy

Tried that as well. Can't uninstall from the Control Panel either. Something is really mucked up. Don't know what else to try.
What other ideas do you have? -
Inappropriate?Hoping you guys can help me out on this issue today. Really missing my Twhirl.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? You could just delete the Twhirl folder from your list of Program Files. Although it does leave fragmented files and invalid registry entries behind on your computer, those can be removed later with a system cleaner, such as CCleaner or Easy Cleaner. Once that folder is deleted, and you ran a system cleaner, than you can install the new program from Twhirl. http://twhirl.org/project/twhirl
I’m done
-
That's the winner. Back up and running now! Thanks Stephen! Looks like CCleaner did the trick!
Thanks again for the help and suggestions. -
Inappropriate?jwidenerga,
All of Stephen's suggestions are good ones. Your best bet is to delete the twhirl folder from your Program Files, and then re-download/install Twhirl. If you are still having problems, then you need to go through the process Stephen described to remove AIR, then reinstall AIR, then reinstall Twhirl.
I’m hopeful this solves it

Inappropriate?I get the same error on my Mac. Any ideas for a fix? Can't seem to find a way to manually uninstall AIR.
Error when i try to install Twhirl:
The application could not be installed because the AIR file is damaged. Try obtaining a new AIR file from the application author.

I'm having the same problem on my Mac. OS X 10.5.5. No install/reinstall/uninstall works -
Inappropriate?I don't know anything about Macs. Unless it's a McDonald's Big Mac.
You can post your problem as a new topic, to get more responses,
but you're probably just going to get the same advice, only for a Mac.

Inappropriate?your suggestions are of the "Duh" variety. Let's pretend that we are not idiots and let's try to look at this as a "Real" problem. Air works fine and is not the problem. Twhirl however is the problem, you can clean and wipe out all traces of Twhirl from the system and there is still an error message.
Alert Thingy is an Air Program and it installed just fine. If you want to write an app, try to at least look into support solutions that may be a bit more than "Duh, erase it and re-install it"
I’m very annoyed
-
Inappropriate?I do know that some programs will corrupt the registry files of another program, even though that was not the intentions. Especially if both programs share another program to assist in the operation of those programs. If you removed all traces of Twhirl, and still get an error message, than there is a problem in your registry. I would suggest a good registry cleaner.
Me personally, I'm not having any problems with Twhirl or AIR, at all. But than again, I'm not trying the share AIR with other programs at the same time. I do have a good registry cleaner, and I do use it quite often to keep my registry clean of corrupt or invalid files. Perhaps that could be the reason why I'm not having any problems with Twhirl.
In my own personal opinion, if Twhirl did have a glitch or bug in the app, I'm sure there would be a lot more people complaining about this.
I’m unconcerned
-
Inappropriate?annoyed,
I am really sorry for your frustrations and don't feel "duh, uninstall and reinstall" is an appropriate answer either. I'll have to get my hands on a vista install to test for the issue you are seeing. It would really help if you could share a screen shot of the error either here or at Thomas at seesmic dot com.
I’m confident we ca get to the bottom of this

Inappropriate? Thanks for your reply, I found a solution, weird though it may be. I am using XP Pro btw. Instead of deleting the old directory, I re-named it to Twhirl-old and then installed Twhirl which installed in a new default Twhirl directory location and it was succesful.
There must be some remnants left in the deleted directory that get overwritten along with the error.

Inappropriate?I've tried everything on this page- manually deleting app, deleting Air, reg cleaning, searching my HD for anything with "twhirl" in the name and deleting it, rebooting- still getting the "The application could not be installed. Try installing it again. If the problem persists, contact the application author. Error 3003." Help!
Win XP Pro SP3

Inappropriate?I too get an error. My computer says: "something went wrong trying to install this application. Please install the latest version of Adobe AIR from .....and then try again" I am running vista and have another program running on AIR so I know that I do have the latest version of Adobe AIR installed.
I have however uninstalled and reinstalled several times with no luck. I am suspecting this is a Vista or AIR error more than a Twhirl error but I still need your help.. So pleeEaase

Inappropriate?I right clicked on the .AIR file that I downloaded from the Twhirl website, and then selected "Open With".
Then "Browse" to the "My Computer > C: drive > Program Files > Common Files > Adobe Air > Versions > 1.0 >" folder.
Then click on the "Adobe AIR Application Installer.exe" program, and it finally installed.
I was getting the same message as Kaari beforehand, and this was the only way it installed. Running Vista Ultimate -

Inappropriate?I found an answer that worked for me on OS X. It requires removing an untrusted or self-signed certs from the Mac OS X Keychain. I had created a self-signed cert for a web server at work and that caused Air to complain about damaged Air file. Here is the Adobe thread. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/48542
Hope this helps.
I’m fixed
