Why won't Twhirl load my tweets, DMs, @replies?

twhirl errors in loading tweets, DMs and replies. i'm also having problems accessing twitter.com on all browsers where previously i've had no problems. i've also tried clearing the cache and cookies on my browsers, restarting them, and even restarting the computer, but it hasn't helped either...
