x-files widget is problematic. more to come?
x-files widget and other widget video responses are destroying the continuity of the public timeline. please consider sandboxing these off so they dont appear in the timeline. this is extremely irritating to folks using the widget and folks using the timeline to respond to.
for example, some deaf users have commented on 'why are so many hearing people intruding on our conversation?' because they don't know that videos appear on the public timeline when posted on their website.
this is something that should be addressed before any more PR stunts are done.

Inappropriate?good point Sean. In the future when you create a video, you will be able to restrict where the replies can come from. And we will also add the source on the public timeline, to get context.
however the public timeline will remain the timeline where all the videos are, with the source. you are already able to switch to your following timeline and there will be more options (groups, tags) in the future.
sounds good?

sounds good. my concern is that the solution is a complex one. simple is best. there is quite a lot of talk on this topic but it is spread across services. just wanted this to be on the radar as a 'hot topic' -
Inappropriate?I've already decided after seeing the flood of 800 post from the Fox X-Files widget that I wont participate on Seesmic. If externally posted videos from widgets can be filtered then something can be done but how do you make new friends/join conversations if all you can make sense of is your "following" column?
I’m frustrated

i agree - this is a key point. social media ought to be about meeting new people (a la Twitter), not just following the people you already know (a la Facebook.)
the public timeline is an important way to do just that, and creates its own context, the balance of which has long been preserved by a knowledgeable community of Seesmic users, and is now being disrupted by a sudden influx of comments showing no sense of that context.
I don't understand why an X-Files channel couldn't have been created, keeping this thread separate but still making it accessible to existing Seesmic users.
