Macs, Manager and Menus!
When will the Mac software allow users to move the Manager software to the menu bar and out of the Dock? This bugs the CRAP out of me!

Inappropriate?Thanks for the question, MutantSquid!
I agree and would also like to see this fixed. We are currently looking into ways to do this with as little impact as possible. Unfortunately, it's not as trivial to resolve this as it may seem initially.
I can't say for certain when we'll be able to do this, but if you'd like a date I can say that I'm hoping to see it by the end of March.
Thanks!

Inappropriate?Because the application contains main menu items (such as Copy, Paste under Edit), there is no way to remove the icons from the dock. The only way would be to redesign the UI so that it does not have any main menu items.
SugarSync Team -
If thats the case then what was with all the BS about an update coming in May that would remove the icon from the dock! -
I agree with Martin. This answer seems like an excuse and makes your company look dishonest in the other instances of this question.
Also, upon examination of the menu items available in the SugarSync Manager application, it appears as if most of these function are unnecessary OUTSIDE of the application. Why can't you give users the option to hide the dock icon (check out LaunchBar for a good example of how to do this) and use the menu as is....since it provides a link to SugarSync Manager, users can click this to enter the program itself...the Dock icon isn't necessary and needs to go away....your employees event think so. -
Folks,
We hear and understand your desire to have the SugarSync Manager application run outside the dock. It's something we would like to do, but the changes necessary to make it work in a way that would be pleasing to Mac users (including myself!) are nontrivial and would take attention away from work that we think is higher priority at the moment. As such, we can't commit to a specific timeframe in which this will happen. It's on our to-do list, but it's just not at the top right now. -
But what happened to the two updates coming in May to resolve this one, the first 1.6.1 came and moved all the necessary menu items to the tray icon but then the 2nd to complete the issue removing the now uneccasary dock icon never materialised. What is currently at the top of your to-do list at the moment then that's taking two months to resolve, the amount of time since the last update. Hopefully all the data corruption issues (upper-casing and file renaming) are number 1 as these I can understand are the most pressing over a design change -
Inappropriate?this sounds a bit ... dunno.
like you're not over ambitious to remove the beta tag any time soon do you?
it's a shame. it looks like a decent service and all but a half done client just spoils it. And an explanation like this doesn't really help either when there are numerous competitors out there that manage to provide a client that runs in some kind of daemon mode. As others have mentioned before: it's a background app after all.
I’m disappointed
-
Inappropriate?emkay - they shouldn't remove the beta tag. The Mac client has serious issues.
-
Inappropriate?well I didnt mean remove as in peeling-it-off-the-wrapping...
-
Inappropriate?if this doesn't get storted out soon, Dropbox is going to steal SugarSync's lunch....
I’m frustrated
-
MutantSquid,
It's still on our list, but not at the top. We've got some good stuff for Mac users coming soon. -
Inappropriate? In the end I gave up with SugarSync, very happily using DropBox, much better support and communication from their staff too. I recommend trying it.
You just get ignored here.
I’m sticking it to them
-
Inappropriate?Yep. Count me as another who has given up on SS. I do keep checking back out of some morbid curiosity (and secret hope for improvvement).
I’m sad AND frustrated.
