Many files pending download, yet SugarSync Manager reports, "All files are in sync."
This is in addition to the very annoying, dare I say deal-breaking problem where the download starts out strong, but within a couple of minutes slows to a crawl and then a dead stop. The only remedy is to quit and restart the app.
Now it's also doing another cute trick: I have a dozen or so files that I uploaded last night working from my laptop. I need them on my desktop now so I can continue working with them (this is 80% of the reason I purchased SS)...but the manager blithely reports "All files are in sync" even though I have the File Transfer Status window open, and the files I need are listed right there...pending download. The service is broken. Period. It still says "beta" on the Mac app (dunno about PC) - but that begs the question: why is Sharpcast charging for a beta product?
So now I'm sittin' here like an idiot...quitting and restarting, carefully monitoring the process to see if it's working, waiting for the files I need to download, begging on my knees practically for the service to do what it's supposed to do. Thing is, if I have to do all of that...I might as well just fire up my laptop, connect via my LAN, and transfer the files myself. It would be LESS work, LESS time, LESS aggravating, LESS expensive, and MORE reliable.
So why am I paying to be a beta tester guinea pig for SugarSync?

Inappropriate?gotommy,
We are actively working on these issues of pending upload/download files. Can you send me your logs and audit as well? I'd like to dig into your issue and see what is causing what you are seeing.
In the SS client, click on "Help -> Send Log to SugarSync...". In the message box, put in "From GetSatisfaction" and the names of 2 files that are stuck. Select the "Send the audit files too".
This will give us some information on the status of the files. Once you sent in the info, let me know! -
Inappropriate? So you had contacted our support system before? What was the ticket number? I can look it up and grab the info there as well.
-
Inappropriate?I've provided my logs and audit results 3 or 4 times.
Here are some of the related ticket numbers

Inappropriate?Got them and the info needed. I'll get back to you.

Inappropriate?Ok..couple of things...are you syncing to a Drobo drive? We don't support syncing to external or NAS drives at this point. There are some issues that still need to be worked out there. If you are, please stop the syncing to the folders on the Drobo drive.
Then, I noticed some errors in the logs. Close SugarSync by selecting "SugarSync Manager -> Quit SugarSync Manager".
On the mac, rename the following folder "/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/SugarSync" to SugarSync2.
Then start up SugarSync and it will prompt you for the name/password. Enter that and select "Yes" when it asks if you have installed before. This will rebuild the local database that SugarSync uses to track the synced files.
Let me know how it goes.</username> -
Inappropriate?Alas, no dice.
I was syncing a folder that lived on a Drobo drive. An unfortunate limitation (the drive is always attached, always on), but I guess one I'll have to live with if I remain a SS customer - so I removed it from the sync list.
I renamed that folder, as instructed, so it would create a new one. It did.
Restarted the app, and it seemed like it was working...(transfer speeds were slow, but things were moving) and then wouldn't you know it?
Everything came to a halt.
"Downloading filename at 0 KB/s"
Any other ideas?

Inappropriate?Which computer did you rename the SS folder on? What is the status on the other computers?
I also found some orphaned files/folders and restored them to the Web Archive folder. Those files should be already on your computer but take a look when you get a chance. -
Inappropriate?I renamed the folder on my desktop, which is the only computer running the app right now.
-
Inappropriate?Great. Can you send the new logs now? I want to see how SS has handled the reinitialization. Let me know when you have done so.
-
Inappropriate?Just uploaded some new logs. This time the problem is a list of files pending to download, but the client showing all files in sync.
-
Inappropriate?I have now reinstalled the app on my two computers, and removed the third computer which was rarely used anyway.
So it's just me - my desktop and my laptop. Here's a screenshot of what it's doing right now (as described above).

As you can see, it is connected and says all files are in sync - but there are 9 files waiting to download.

Inappropriate?Any updates on this? For a while there it seemed folks at Sharpcast were on the case, trying to figure out what's wrong and how to fix it - but it's been eerily silent for the last few weeks...
I’m feeling abandoned.

Inappropriate?I'm having the PENDING DOWNLOAD problem using SugarSync build:
1.6.2.46796.20090514 for Mac.
I'm running SugarSync on an Intel Mac, running 10.4.11.
This is frustrating as I have a file I need to work on. I should have backed up to a flash drive.
I hope this problem will be resolved. When it's working, SugarSync is great. If this problem isn't resolved soon, I'll have to move on or go back to FTP for backups and exchanges.
My Vista machine was able to download the file, which I then put on a flash drive and transferred to my Mac. At least I don't have to drive back to my office.
Is the Mac software still in development?

Inappropriate?Deleting the old SugarSync files and reinstalling seems to have fixed the problem.
A representative quickly replied to my ticket:
---quoted material below---
I would like you to reinstall the SugarSync Manager on the computer.
The steps for uninstall are given below.
MAC:
In order to completely remove SugarSync from your Mac, please move the following items to the Trash:
/Applications/SugarSync Manager.app
<computername>/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.sharpcast.xfsmond.plist
/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/SugarSync
/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/com.sharpcast.SugarSync.plist
Replace <computername> with the name of the computer and <username> with the user name using which you are loging in to the computer.
Then, install the SugarSync Manager. In case you don't have the installation file, the latest release of SugarSync Manager is available for download at
https://www.sugarsync.com/downloads.</username></computername></username></username></computername>

Inappropriate?I reinstalled SugarSync from scratch on my new netbook hard drive (Asus 1000HE) and I have the same problem. I didn't even install any virus protection so that isn't the problem. As it's a fresh install, this isn't the solution.
Additionally, Sugarsync uses up way too much memory. It loads up to 1.5GB of the 2GB available in RAM and it just gets stuck in this same problem of not downloading the file (or actually downloading filename at 0 kb/s) and this never changes. I have never been able to get SugarSync to work properly with the Asus Netbook (ironic that Asus offers its own solution for backup.)
Sending audit files to Sugarsync doesn't work either. The application crashed midway through the audit procedure. This is not good. -
Inappropriate?I had yet another "pending download" hang on a Mac that prompted me look for other solutions. I've been using a service called SpiderOak, which has worked flawlessly for me on Macs running 10.4, and PCs running XP and Vista.
I haven't given up on the SugarSync, but after the third "pending download" problem, I had to find a service I could depend on for simple online backups and file exchange.

Inappropriate? Thanks for the tip, Steve. I may have to try SpiderOak...on top of the problems with Sugarsync (long standing, widespread, no end-in-sight problems), SS is more expensive than most other solutions. Looks like I can get 100gb there for the same price as 60gb here.
SS may have pushed me beyond the tipping point of my customer loyalty...
