Please allow me to remove the SugarSync icon from the Dock on Mac. I like to keep my Dock clean.

Inappropriate?Totally!!!! This is what windows does (when you close sugarsync it goes to the taskbar) so theres no reason it shouldnt work the same on OSX.
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate? It's already in the menubar, why have it the dock too.
-
It's about real-estate. We want the choice of where to put it, not to have it in both. Chronosync, Mozy, JungleDisk, and Time Machine all behave this way, since it's not like we need to switch to it often (like Mail or Office). -
Inappropriate?I also hate seeing the SugarSync icon when I apple+tab programs.
-
Inappropriate? As syncing is happening in the background it should not be necessary to have sugarsync in the dock. The taskbar is enough.
It might be a good idea to allow (and autostart) syncing without showing the manager window and only show the sync status in the taskbar. The manager can then be launched from the taskbar icon or by clicking the application icon. When the manager window is active it can be shown in the dock.

Inappropriate?Hello Everyone,
It is definitely annoying for the icon to appear in the dock. All of us at Sharpcast agree.
The current technical problem is that apps with menus need to have an icon in the dock. This will be resolved with two minor updates (in May).
These updates will move the most relevant set of menus to appear under the menubar and remove the icon from the dock. There are also some very important Mac improvements coming out in the same timeframe as well.
Thanks,
Sean

How is this coming along? -
Ya i want to know that too..
I find the lack of support and communication (and overall crappy support) to be really ridiculous, and I am just about to cancel my free trial BEFORE its even over. If you just look around on the forums and getsatisfaction, people have major issues, which often don't get resolved, or take months to get resolved. It also seems they greatly favor the windows version of sugarsync, and are leaving mac users out in the cold. Simple things that should have been in the app since V1 like no dock icon or fixing the stupid app so it doesnt go above the menubar (ive never seen an app do that before, just makes me thing it was coded VERY sloppily by people who are not very efficient with Macs). Until this changes, see ya sugarsync. -
Where are those updates. Its July? -
Inappropriate? This is why I cancelled my sugarsync account. SHARPCAST DOES NOT GIVE A CRAP ABOUT THE MAC VERSION.
-
Inappropriate?You are right, emkay.
But hopefully this amount of comments help that Sharpcast will give us at least a roadmap and some more regular information on upcoming features.
I have already a paid account thinking that the external drive - feature would have already been installed... still lacking. And still no information on that by Sharpcast. Also twittering them does not produce an answer.
I am very dissapointed that there is no information. And I am annoyed by these stupid writing-competitions and referral-bonus-programs.
As long as they keep the Mac-Version in beta-status and don't provide any kind of information on upcoming releases, I am not willing to sacrifice any of my friends...

Inappropriate?Did you guys not see the post in the other topic saying actually they can't do this at all? It really is a bad customer experience to be told this and other 'very important Mac improvements' are coming in May and now today to be told they can't actually do it at all on another topic! At least Syncplicity had the balls to just say their Mac client is a piece of s**t and pull it altogether rather than just keeping their paying customers in the dark over what is going on to fix their issues and annoyances
I’m Frustrated

Inappropriate? It's a bunch of crap if they say they can't do this. I used Dockless to make the dock icon go away without much of a problem. The only problem I had was not being able to get to some options which could easily have been put as additional menu items under the menubar icon. I canceled my account longer ago after I had issues with SugarSync just deleting whole folders from my local machine. I put in a support ticket and never got a response.
The down side is that it seems like Mac support for this type of service is lacking across the board. I tried going with SpiderOak. Their desktop application was about as problematic as SugarSync. While they had deduplication as a good selling point their desktop client used huge amounts of resources so I finally gave up there too.
I would love to see some company come a long and do this type of service right on the Mac. I don't understand what the heck the problem is.

Inappropriate?hats off to any company that decides to go getsatisfaction.
but this means you have to be commited to communication & transparency else it will quick turnout your shooting your own foot.
I wouldn't really bother if I hadn't already a paid account. I went for it because I liked the company's responsivness and the potential of the client. But currently both seem to be stuck in beta stage(?)
It's a joke that an OS that comes with the all the basics on board (shell, rsync, ...) seems to be the one with the least working client(s). Yes, not just sugarsync.

Inappropriate?Dockless was actually a useful hint. A painless way to remove the dock icon. And everything's still accessible through the menu bar.
I’m thankful
-
Inappropriate?I mean, I really would like to use SugarSync. Even a blog post showing something, anything at all relating to the mac version would be so nice...
I’m arghh
-
Inappropriate?Absolutely. Absolutely. Why not post some news, so that we, the Mac BETA - User, know at least, that there is still someone supporting us.
Is it so hard to keep users at least posted about your progress (and I assume that there is any...). Other company do so more frequently (i.e. http://twitter.com/culturedcode) -
Inappropriate? The only thing worse than no information is misinformation. A company shouldn't pretend to listen to its customers' concerns when it's really just doing the bare minimum (arguably) that it can do and still turn a profit. Don't pretend to be engaged in a forum ("Sharpcast employees are here to help!") when you are just feeding false (if well intentioned, at first anyway) promises then bail on the conversation when folks come around expecting accountability for those promises. The loudest sound in a customer service forum shouldn't be the company's silence. Grow a spine, and level with your customers.
I cannot tell you how many times I've been told to "hang tight" 'cuz they are totally working on an issue...but the issue does not get resolved (no matter how many times I send in my log files or I un-install, re-install, and re-sync my entire system). It's been almost 3 months since we've seen an update on a piece of "beta" software. I dunno if it's still in beta for Windows, but it clearly still is for Macs - so why do Mac users pay full price for less functionality? And why are they charging for beta service/software anyway? I realize Google kept gmail in beta for like 5 years...but it's free (and from day 1 it worked better in beta than Sugarsync ever has).
We all have a choice...if we don't like it, don't buy it. Of course Sharpcast claims it will not refund one nickel of your subscription fee, no matter how lousy the service has been, to those who may have foolishly paid for a year. I realize they don't want their cancellation policy to encourage folks to leave (the service itself is already doing a pretty good job at that), but I think any honest, fair-minded person would agree that - under the circumstances - at least a pro-rated subscription refund is entirely reasonable (if not in-full).
I've been telling myself for many months that I'm *sure* they're going to straighten out these issues any day now. Any day now...a software update will arrive and the service will just work as promised. It's close...it really is. It does some things I need better than other services I have found (so far...). But 3 months without an update - and 5 months since a peep in this thread? Are we sure anyone still works at Sharpcast?
Could someone please put a mirror under Sharpcast's nose and let the rest of us know if it's still breathing?

Inappropriate?gotommy, I completely agree.
Sharpcast, thanks for making a shitty product and charging a ridiculous price for it. You can add me to the long list of unsatisfied (ex)customers. I will be sure to warn people about your company and your product.
I’m done with this horrible company
