Speakapedia, tried it, won't work for me.

I downloaded Speakapedia to try it out. It goes through the process of adding material to iTunes apparently but when I go to iTunes there is nothing added. That is, there is the progress bar and message that the material is being transferred but no content appears in iTunes. I am using an iMac G5 with OS 10.5.3.

This could be one of two things, first lets just check that the files really are not being imported. Go to the Music section of your iTunes library and in the search field type in "Speakapedia", this should filter down by artist and if the tracks are there they should be shown.

I am looking to change the wording of the messages within Speakapedia to make it clearer where the tracks are going as many people assume that the tracks will end up in Podcasts rather than Music.

If there are no tracks by Speakapedia in iTunes then it could be one other thing. Open iTunes preferences on the "Advanced" tab and check that "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" is checked. Currently the audio files are generated in a temporary folder and are deleted once imported as it is assumed (incorrectly!) that iTunes would always copy them into the library.

The workaround for this issue is currently to switch on the "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" option, I will be adding an option to choose an alternate location for the files to be exported to in a future release.

Dave, thanks for the reply. I checked iTunes doing the search you suggest and there is nothing there in the Music section or any other section. I tried using Speakapedia again, watched the process (progress bar, 2-3 minutes, message of completion), went to iTunes - nada. Also checked the Advanced tab and it is already selected to copy files to iTunes so that is not the problem.
I tried Speak. on my Macbook and it worked fine, adding files to iTunes but not on my iMac, the computer I synch my ipod to so that is where I need it.
On iMac using OS 10.5.4 and this is a PPC, not intel iMac.

Thanks for the reply Richard. This is quite strange as we do have people who have PPC Mac's who have been using Speakapedia during our private beta and have not had any problems.

Could you open up "Console.app" in your Applications/Utilities folder on your iMac and make sure that "Console Messages" is selected on the left hand side, then type "Speakapedia" in to the search box in the top right hand corner and finally select "Clear Display" from the View menu.

Then run Speakapedia again and let me know if there are any messages that appear in the Console window when it fails to import?

Looks like one of the tools that we ship has been compiled as i386 only which is very strange but I will make sure this is fixed for v1.0 which should ship at the very latest mid next week.

I have just popped up a new release of Speakapedia 0.9.4 specifically to fix this issue. Hopefully this will fix your issue!

To update to 0.9.4, select "Check for Updates" on the "Speakapedia" menu.
