Some of us are looking for a way to say "we're not here anymore." A cute, and probably easy, way to add this would be to include an "Elsewhere" place that has no address.

Inappropriate?We hear ya, and we understand. We have a laundry list of various cute "null" places to fulfill this idea (Mars, A picture of the solar system with an arrow pointing at the Earth, Your personal space, sector ZZ 9 plural zed alpha, Nagrand, Alpha Complex, off the grid, Black Mesa research center, Aperature Science Computer Aided Enrichment Center, etc. etc. etc... Somehow we completely missed "elsewhere" (which I like, and we would not have to worry about IP infringement or lawsuits).
Look for some sort of "not available" type of functionality in the future (and keep the fun names coming).

We actually snuck this in when Mark wasn't looking. Click Preferences, then Privacy, click the radio button "Hide your Location", and voila - you're officially off the grid.
Unfortunately we didn't add any of the various cute places - we just threw in a quick no-fun solution that says "So-and-So isn't anywhere right now". :)

Inappropriate?Thanks, Ryan. The sense of this is pretty different from what I had in mind, and in the spirit of beta, I will explain (it's not all that big a deal anyway). My concern here isn't "privacy," it's being able to quickly note that I am no longer at location X -- in a way that doesn't require someone to read my shout to get that.
Clicking into the preferences area and submitting a form is a little too much work for that. Plus, I suspect I'd forget to change that setting later.
(I tried converting the form POST to a GET so I could bookmark the action, but your form is a little too clever for that.)
I see you include a warning that I'm in "stealth mode" when I hide my location; that's good. I also see that this appears to hide all my shouts, not just my current location. That's useful, but for a different situation than I had in mind. -
Inappropriate?Ah, yes, I'm with you now. We are currently working on the ability to "leave" a place, in other words to mark that you are no longer at a Place, and you will be considered temporarily off the grid until you shout again. You can expect this functionality in the near future!
