Feature request: don't notify of shouts more than X miles from my location
Might be nice to have an option where users could choose to suppress notifications for shouts that are more than X distance from their last shouted location. Whether it's a hard coded number like 100 miles or configurable, this would take care of a couple scenarios: when folks are out of town, those in their hometown could choose not to receive shouts from faraway places, and the opposite as well... folks who are traveling wouldn't see shouts from "home".

Inappropriate?Good idea. I've added it into the system as a feature request.

Inappropriate?I would be fine with me if this was a preference, but I hope it wouldn't be a default. I like using Shizzow to keep my ear to the ground and know what's going on around town -- networking events, planning meetings, side project meetups -- so that I'm reminded to keep my eye on Upcoming and Twitter for events I may want to attend or things I may want to get involved in.

Inappropriate? We like it as an option, but I don't think that we would ever make it the default. When I was at sxsw, I enjoyed seeing the shouts from people at home, and I also like to see my friends shouting from exotic travel locations, so I'm not sure that I would personally use it. However, I certainly see how it would be useful in some situations as an option.

Inappropriate?I agree with Katherine and Dawn, ideally this would be a user-configurable option. And it's one that I probably wouldn't use except for times like SXSW, Gnomedex, or other major events where a large portion of the folks I'm following are going to all sorts of cool places, with zero chance of me joining them :)
