Google Friend Connect and Typepad Premium
Would love Google Friend Connect on Typepad - Will this happen? It's going to be huge. I was just speaking with a Google employee and sang the praises of Typepad - he agreed Google Friend Connect would be massive and drive business anywhere and everywhere thru' SMM - Can I have it on http://www.joetheseo.com?????

Cool idea!
Although TypePad doesn't have any official support for Google Friend Connect right now, you can actually make use of Friend Connect on a TypePad site using sidebar modules. Here's how you can do it:
- When following through the Friend Connect setup process you'll be asked to create two HTML files on your site. You can create these as normal TypePad pages. Choose to "Edit HTML" rather than "Rich Text" and you can copy the main content from Google's HTML files into the content field.
- Be sure to set the filename as per Google's instructions; if you don't see the "Filename" option on the TypePad compose page, you can use the "Display Options" link to enable it.
- Once you've got Friend Connect hooked up, you can add the members gadget and other gadgets as sidebar modules. Go to the "Design" tab and go to the "Content" area. One of the modules is called "Embed your own HTML", which will allow you to embed the code given to you by Google Friend Connect to embed the gadgets.
I set this up on a test blog. I'd be interested to hear about how you get on. If you have any questions, please let me know.
I’m excited

Inappropriate?Poo! Now that I am doing this, I am not getting it to work.
When you download the 2 files, are you copying code from within the files into the Html side of each page.
Short cut- here are my 2 pages.
Google is NOT recognizing them.
http://www.takerootandwrite.com/rpc_r...
http://www.takerootandwrite.com/canva...
I just clicked on the file on my desktop and hit copy then pasted into HTML side of page.
I can't like Find ANY actual HTML on the to files they give.
Help! Yall did it!
Thnx!
Noelle
I’m feeling like I should be able to do this!

Inappropriate?The problem is...
you can copy the main content from Google's HTML files into the content field.
I cant get to the {main content from Google's HTML files}
How do you see it to access the content?
I have tried to open them, they are blank.
I just actually uploaded the files themselves to the pages above, & it still did not work. So I am taking them off. Pages are still there though.
Argh. :-)
I’m frustrated, but patient

Inappropriate?Assuming that you're using a computer with Windows, one way to find the necessary code is to open the Notepad program that comes with Windows and then drag and drop each file onto Notepad. This will load the code for the pages which you should be able to post into the "Edit HTML" box.
I just had a look at the files again and extracted the important body parts that can go in your TypePad page.

Hey, Have you noticed that page views for the 'file' sites are so high?
Like my Get Clicky for ONE DAY says...
655 Page Views http://www.takerootandwrite.com/rpc_r...
Oh my golly! Is that ok, or a good thing, or weird or WHAT! :-)
I just want to make sure this is normal.
Thanks!

I believe that Google Friend Connect uses that page to communicate with the Google servers, so I guess the page views you're seeing there are the result of the widgets you embedded retrieving information from Google, so that's why the number seems unusually high. -
Inappropriate? You got me out of bed! I usually am up till like 2am but decided to call it early. Picked up iPhone to check textmsg from hubby and hit the inbox & saw your email. Had to come back in and try it!
I am MAC all the way, no Windows in site! :-)
So no notepad. I know there are things for Mac, just have been able to get away w/out needing them. If you know of something let me know so I will have it!
BUT! Since you so graciously added the code right here for me...
YES! I used it and... Success has been rendered!
I will add the rest to template tomorrow. That part should be fine.
Thank you so much!
Have a great night!
Noelle
@TakeRoot
I’m glad I got out of bed & tried it!

Inappropriate? If your Typepad account has file management, just upload those two files as-is! You can see the result at dshack.net. I literally just downloaded the two files right from google, uploaded them with file manager, and pasted the widget code into a notes typepad in the sidebar.
I’m hoping this helps
