Notification of follow-up comments via email
I mentioned this on one of the Everything Typepad threads but I wanted to post it in the "official" feedback forum. :)
Currently, commenters can subscribe to follow-up comments via RSS feed, however, I've noticed that both Blogger and Wordpress allow commenters to choose whether they would like to have a notification for follow-up comments sent via email. When I visit these other sites, I often use that feature and have found it as a quick and easy way to keep up with other comments and it generates significant interaction among commenters. I don't know about others but unfortunately, I haven't had much luck with people subscribing to each post's RSS feed.
So while I receive all comments posted on my site via email, I'd also like commenters to have the same privilege.

Inappropriate?Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes! And yes.
Also good would be CoComment integration. -
Inappropriate? If we implemented a feature like this, I think we would want to be conscious of whether a user wants emails with replies to just their own comments, or an email with all of the comment activity for a post. The first would require a "reply" feature for individual comments, like we have in TypePad Connect currently.
So there would be likely be steps involved with a feature like this, starting with an email option for ALL of the comments on a post and then a more specific feature that allows for emails when someone replies to a specific comment. -
Inappropriate? It should definitely be for all comments on a post because a blog is a multi-directional conversation, not separate two-way conversations between the blogger and each individual commenter. At least it should be! I wouldn't ever be interested in just seeing replies to my comment. Also, on some blogs (including mine) the owner replies to multiple comments in a single comment, so notification of replies to a particular comment wouldn't work in those cases. Much safer to send all comments. That seems to be the standard anyway, so people are used to it.

I'm with IslandBookworm on this. It should be a subscription to all follow-up comments rather than simply a comment thread (if that makes any sense). -
Inappropriate? Is this going to be implemented any time soon? Email notification for commenters is a great idea. It's really annoying to have to subscribe to comments through RSS. Wordpress and Blogger have email notification - why not TypePad as well? The fact that TypePad does not have this makes me want to seriously consider switching back over to one of those other blog hosting sites because it's hard to have an ongoing comment thread without the email notification.
I’m frustrated

I gave up on Typepad months ago. If you want to move to Blogger, here's how: http://classical-bookworm.blogspot.co...
