What makes you different?

We think Automattic and Acquia are great companies for enhancing their respective platforms, and we encourage and applaud their success! But Six Apart is about helping the entire blogosphere succeed, regardless of which tools you use.

Obviously, we’re proud of our platforms, and Movable Type, TypePad and Vox each have distinct capabilities that are unequaled by their rivals. But over the last year, we’ve seen a lot of bloggers understand how Six Apart is about helping any blogger or publisher succeed, and there are lots of good examples of why that’s true:

Blogs.com is a powerful new way to promote the best in blogs, and already features lots of sites powered not just by Six Apart platforms, but by WordPress, Drupal, Blogger, or anything else. We want to drive traffic to great blogs and help readers discover sites that they might not
findi otherwise.

Blog It lets you post to all of our platforms, but to Drupal or WordPress or Blogger or anything else right from within Facebook or on your iPhone. Best of all, it connects to Twitter and Pownce and Tumblr and any other places you might want to share your posts with your audience. Six Apart Media is dedicated to helping publishers succeed, with smart advertising programs and insights on how to build an audience and grow a community. And (you guessed it!) they work with any publisher, regardless of platform.

Six Apart Services builds out many of the best social media, community and blogging sites on the web. They’re unmatched for their expertise in Movable Type, but their clients use every platform under the sun.

And then there’s our technological leadership. From inventing OpenID to helping birth the Atom API, OAuth, TrackBack, and many more standards, we’ve tried to invent technologies that help the entire industry, and our staff even educates coders who work on platforms like WordPress and Drupal on how to implement them, donating not just our code but our time and talent as well.

There are many, many more examples, but Six Apart has long passed being simply about tools. We’re about helping people communicate and express themselves on the web. If people want the best tools to do that, we’re proud to provide them, but our goal is a lot bigger than any one software platform. It’s as big as the whole web. :)
