suggestions tab makes site slow?
Is it just me or does adding the Suggestions Tab (a great feature, BTW), make a site significantly slower? I notice that scrolling up and down my site (DesiPundit) is not as smooth as it was before.
Or is it something else about the site that is causing the delay although I noticed the change only after I added the Suggestions Tab code.

It seems to perform fine as I'm loading it. The Skribit assets seems to load before the Flickr stuff right now.
Having said that, we're been planning on putting our widgets on CloudFront, which will make loading our assets much faster. I'll see if I can accelerate the schedule for that.

Inappropriate? Thanks, Calvin. The site is much spiffy when I remove the code. Right now, I rather have the feature enabled as not many readers have complained so far. But keep me posted on your CloudFront plan.
I’m undecided

Hey Patrix,
I just wanted to let you know what we've been on CF since the weekend you originally reported the problem. Having re-read your problem and your convo with Paul, I don't think this will fix your problem though. I haven't been able to reproduce your problem on any of the browsers I've tried though. I'm thinking it might have to do with a combination of your site CSS and/or JavaScript in combination of our widget. We'll have to dig into this a little further. -
Inappropriate?Patrix - what OS/browser combination are you using? Did you recently add any browser extensions? The reason I ask is that I've tested your site on Firefox 3, Safari 3 and Safari 4 beta so far without issue. I also saved a local copy, took out the suggestions tab code, and tested it again in those browsers and didn't see any difference in scrolling speed.
so it's not the actual loading of the page that is slowed down you think, but the after-page load scrolling? This kind of sounds like a Firefox issue I have (but for all sites not just my suggestions tab ones) where after a day or so it'll get slow from all the memory leaks.. so I restart Firefox pretty much everyday (somewhat related: http://paulstamatiou.com/2007/06/26/h...).

Inappropriate?Paul,
I'm using Win XP/ Firefox. The last add-on I added was XMarks. I'm aware of the memory leaks problem in FF and restart my browser almost every day; sometimes even 2-3 times a day.
I removed the suggestions tab code and the scrolling speed was back to normal so I'm assuming it is indeed making it slow.
I’m indifferent

Inappropriate?alright - i'll check this out some more this week and maybe make you a screencast to show you what i see on my end. I'll be able to do the same with XP/Firefox after I fix my VMware setup on my Mac. sit tight. ;-D
either way - if you like the sidebar widget, continue using that by all means and we'll get to the bottom of this suggestions tab issue.
I’m happy

Inappropriate? No problem. I've removed the S.Tab for now and scrolling is back to normal. The widget is working just fine. Let me know if you figure it out.
